More hearts - more relevancy??

Is this true? I heard that the more favourites an item has the higher up the relevancy it appears?
Can anyone clarify this?

No the amount of hearts doesn't immediately correlate with relevancy, but it could indirectly.

After I tweaked my shop -SEO- after having it open earlier this year, I noticed that some of my listings would show up in page 3, 4 or 5 in popular searches instead of page 1 or 2.
I did some more research and yes, other shops on page 1, with similar items, had more views, hearts, and were in more treasuries than mine. I had my shop critiqued AGAIN, which I knew that they couldn't really tell me anything more about titles or keywords because I was already RELEVANT in searches on ETSY and Google, so, what else could they tell me? Well, I learned that those shops on page 1 had more views, hearts and were in more treasuries than mine therefore, they will turn up higher in searches than my listings.

If you have not tweaked your shop for SEO, relevancy, etc, having more hearts wouldn't really have your shop show up higher in search results.

Thanks for this thread. I have been wondering the same thing too. This is a real learning experience. When I first started in July I didn't understand how much there was I didn't understand. Otherwise I might not have opened my shop. lol!

that is not very accurate and my flower vase with 0 favourite and 5 views I list top 5 pages and many views and favourites from others are listed behind me.

This is compehensive factors to list pages and hard to say

This first 3 keywords are very important and also those 2 or 3 keywords are consistent and also vital when you put into tags and many people want to put longer titles ,but I do not like that, as in your URL they will truncate 5-7 words,for left keywords in the title they will delete ,do you notice that , which is also bad for google search. this is a small secret

@ Alex - the items you sell are unique, therefore the keywords are very limited and being in page 5 is not the same as being in page 1.
The first 3 words were considered MOST importantly but relevance changes and I think research needs to be done so you can know what best works for your shop.

I just listed one art gift keywords (art gift277,350 items ) and it listed no 1 behind sponsor.

suggested you put shorter keywords and put inner linkage inside and in the tags duplicate a little,in description separate them to describe the keywords

From what I understood, your search term in "flower vase" with 26,000 hits...LIke I stated before, it's a smaller category...
For MY shop, there are over 89, 200 hits...BIG difference, right?

sorry for my bad english and i am from china.
I mean art gift is very compentitive key words and totally it has 0.2 millions items listed and many many pages. my items with keyword art gift listed first page. sometimes experter does not say correctly

so first 3 keywords and those 3 should be consitent in the title, duplicate firstly in the description and sometimes saparate them,add inner linkage,in tags duplicate it and separate them , the views will be higher, relecency is not vital,we just focus on the keywords

That's what I thought, and so I get bumbed that I have so few hearts even though I get tons of views. I feel that either people dont like my items or they are not taking the time to be kind and show that they like.

My un-scientific observation is that the number of hearts does affect relevancy & that it's not necessarily the number of hearts that a particular item has, rather the number of hearts over the entire shop (at least in a shop such as mine where one is selling a particular type of item).

thats really true and i found in my circles some sellers all along favourite other sellers items which is very odd, writing good keywords and tags and description is most important at etsy inside

I just found this info on the SEO & Relevancy team. It's on page 5 in a thread called "SEO Myths you should not believe." This says that favorites do make a difference, along with number of sales both for the shop and that particular item (relisted) and treasuries. This has been a real eye opener for me too. I plan on joining that team as soon as I'm done with this post. :)

Most of the listings that are shown on the first 1 - 3 pages of search results on Relevancy searches and on Browse Pages, are

- listings from shops with a high number of sales
- listings with many sales (not OOAK, relisted)
- listings with many hearts/favorites
- listings included in many treasuries

In other words, Etsy favors popular listings when it comes to choosing listings for the first few pages of search results.

Giving and getting hearts/favorites for any listing in your shop is a good way to stand a better chance at getting many more views.

I was also wondering if something in etsy search relevancy just changed in the past week. My search results, which were over half of my views, have dropped to 2-3 per day, and I can hardly find my items. I used to be in the first 1-5 pages of a search for most of my items.
