Monday Matters: What are you reading at the moment?

I tend to go through phases with reading. I love reading poetry and memoirs, but I’m currently in a New Yorker phase. It provides me with a little news, some entertainment, and more reading material than I can digest in a week. Even though I feel guilty when the next issue arrives and I haven’t finished the last, I’m always really excited when I see it in my mailbox.

Just this morning, I subscribed to the weekend edition of The New York Times. And with both of those subscriptions going, it looks like I’m entering the “sorry, can’t hang out, I’m reading” phase.

I normally read often but our basement flooded (3 1/2 feet of sewage water) last month due to heavy rains. Thank goodness my etsy supplies were NOT in the basement. Still putting basement back together. Once that is finished I look forward to relaxing with a good book.

At the moment I'm reading team forum posts and noticing that most Etsy members who visit the different forums of the various teams I'm on are unhappy with most of the changes Etsy has been making recently.
Etsy nowadays seems to be profiding towards factories, rather than makers of unique products, and handmade artists obviously do not appreciate that.

Re: reading books
I read lots an lots of books (around 125 every year).
At the moment I am reading the Shift Omnibus, which is part of the Silo Saga, by Hugh Howey.
I highly recommend the series!

i´m reading a book that´s called "the victorian vibrator". now that may sound a little saucy but this book is actually about inventions and their use throughout the history of mankind. it starts with how people got in touch with electricity, about the invention of cars, telephones and so on

Being an Etsy fanatic, I don't read as much as I used to; currently an amazing book "Five Quarters of the Orange" - same author as Chocolat.
Couple weeks ago finished Wicked - loved it!

I've been reading a lot of poetry and graphic novels lately. i'm currently reading a book of Victorian literary criticism, it's fascinating to see how books like Jane Eyre were reviewed when they were new. I also have a stack of vintage books to speed read so I can list them!

The Book Thief was great!!! Also liked The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro and The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
Right now reading "Z" by Therese Anne Fowler. Novel about Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald and their life through her eyes. Enjoying the time period -- the story unfolds starting in the early 1900's.

I've been into a lot of lifestyle non-fiction lately. "Wild Company" by the founders of Banana Republic was fascinating. "The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap" is a must-read if you love books. Made me want to go out and buy a bookstore. "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Crying" by comedian Carol Liefer was really funny and posed some great advice for success. Then I've got my book club pick of the month, "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" which was a really fun read.

I'm currently reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (5 books, 1 novel), it's completely random and hilarious. Douglas Adams seems to be evolving into a typical plot and story line sort of flow by the last two books, you can actually follow the the characters by the end!

I also love my magazines which currently include: Money, Inc, Health, AFAR, & Fast Company. Secret - I don't pay for them, I use RewardSurvey and my frequent flyer miles to get them. ;)

I'm reading 'Peril at End House' by Agatha Christie :)

It's a Poirot book, and I'm making my way through all of them currently... I hope to be finished by the end of this year or early next year - I'm maybe just over halfway through right now? I try to read them chronologically but sometimes that doesn't happen...

Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan. While this dad is not fat yet, I find this book not only hilarious, but also very comforting. All Dads face similar challenges.

I've always got an audio book going while I draw. Just finished Sweet Tooth, by Ian McEwan, which was lots of fun. I sometimes wonder if what I'm listening to effects my work, gothic novel, heavier, darker portrait?

I love to finish my day by reading a good book, usually a novel of some sort, before I fall asleep. Currently I'm finishing up the final book in Margaret Atwood's trilogy, "MaddAddam". Great read!

I am always reading magazines like Country Living, Costal Living, Southern Living, and others to see if they are featuring items from Etsy sellers. When I find an Etsy shop item featured in a magazine, I look at that shop on Etsy, and check out their website if they have one. I look to see what that shop is doing that I like and put plans in place to improve my shop in that way.

Since my shop has only been active since August of this year, my list of improvements and opportunities is long! It is interesting to see how many items from Etsy sellers are featured in these magazines.

Hi! I'm usually reading two at a time, currently I'm reading "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill as well as "The mis education of the negro" by Carter g Woodson. I usually read motivational books as well as small business success and historical reads. If I could read and work on my shop all day that would be a dream come true...
