Looking for a bit of advice!

Good morning!

I opened my shop in August selling hand made Earrings. I have had a handful of sales, however, not nearly what I was hoping for. Looking at my stats, I am getting views nearly every day but the number seems to go down each day.

I have been finding my items in specific search fields (eg. wire wrapped dangle earrings) within the first few pages, but I need to find a way to increase views thus increasing sales. Most forums I have gone to for help have basically said "just wait, your shop is new"....but I would have to think that can't be the only answer. I had been paying for promotion ads, but found I rarely got any view from them.....so that tells me that I need to make some adjustments somewhere.

I would love for people to give me some advice!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

I don't sell jewelry, so these are just my thoughts as a buyer... I would target more specific colors. You have a lot of good search words in your tags regarding the type of earring, but the ones that I think would also be beneficial would relate to your colors. As a buyer, I am often trying to find things that will match a piece of clothing. Your green earrings for example only use green drop earrings for a tag (or similar) -- but don't include chartreuse, lime, avocado, you get the idea. Add at least one or two more descriptive color words might really help you connect to buyers who are looking for a specific color rather than competing with thousands of similarly styled earrings.

Hope that helps a little!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

You opened your shop in August and you are selling in the most crowded category (jewelry) and subcategorie (earrings) on Etsy.
Yet you already made 7 sales. I would say you are doing great!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

I have a facebook page, and I blog about what I'm making as I make it. That also piques people's interest. Also, I have membership in a number of facebook groups where you are encouraged to promote and sell. That has also driven up numbers. So far, I haven't had to pay a cent.

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

I'm been doing treasuries, pinterest -team community boards, but mostly doing team participation events. I've gotten a very large increase in views and favorites doing that, but no sales. I'm thinking I may need to concentrate more on figureing out how to drive viewers from outside of Etsy into my store, but not sure how to do that effectively.

apart from working on tags, titles and SEO if think you need more item. the more you have, the easier you can be found, the more chances you have to sell...

Your views are going down, my views are going down ... don't worry about it. Don't set targets for yourself that involve things you can't control like sales or views. If you must look at stats concentrate on the keywords or sources!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Views are going down for everyone right now.

As a jewelry seller, I will tell you - you need to change your background. It is too busy and is competing, visually, with your earrings. You can do white or cream or gray, whatever spirit moves you, but get something visually cleaner to showcase your work.

You may find, once you do that, you're getting into more Treasuries, which does indeed help increase your shop's exposure.

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Hey there,

I am not a jewelry seller, but I have heard a lot from people on the forums and I know its a very saturated market. You may need to tweak your search words from time to time to keep up with trends, especially if search is working for you. Also make sure you stand out from the pack in every way, use your branding and every aspect of your business (from listing to shipping) to help you stand out to the buyer and keep them coming back for more and send their friends too!

I love these earrings --> Teal Blue Wire Dangle Earrings, and how unique they are and that I haven't seen anything like them before! Unique (or even niche) pieces like these are also a great way to stand out from the crowd and keep the buyers coming!

Good luck and congrats on your success so far!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Google frown upon character such as this " | " in titles? (also ♥s, *, etc)

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

I agree with what the others have said, especially the backgrounds. To Lauren's point about Facebook, could you elaborate on that a bit? I've opened a FB page, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Laurel I don't see a FB link on you Etsy page, so do you sell your item from FB, or direct them to your shop?

Jewelry is a saturated market however don't give up. You say you advertise but why don't you try advertising off etsy? Try posting local flyers with your etsy url, local arts and fairs, or even weddings?

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

You're off to a good start. Definitely list more items. My regular sales started once I listed 100 items.

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Hi Lisa,

I suggest adding more items and regular updates (try adding an item or two every day).

Also, your pictures are nice, but could use a little clarity...a lot of them seem cropped as an afterthought...try staging your photos to fit etsy's 10:8 thumbnail ratio. I happen to like the textured background and think it adds to your photos.

I think this is your best thumbnail:

I would use that as a template.

Good luck!

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Thank you everyone for the advice!!! I had a schedule of adding 10 new items per week...however, I am working on creating 100 new pairs by november 23rd for a craft show and have kinda halted on posting new items to etsy. It takes so much time to photograph and list items! LOL! Thank you Alexis for the ratio info! I have been trying to find for quite some time the actual spec numbers!!!!

Hey Lisa,

I see you do not have twitter presence. I have seen people getting decent response from twitter.

My 2 cents :-)

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

You just opened your shop two weeks ago, and already have 7 sales!!!!
that is great, really, your prices are excellent, and your pictures are good, except for a few ones that look crowded with props; always try to make the product stand out by not adding things to compete with your products;

I opened my shop in August 30, 2011
two years ago; two weeks later after my shop opened I made my first sale;
my sales increased when I added more items, and wrote more relevant titles to be found on searches.

You'll continue doing great, you are very talented, I already selected a few pieces, I'm coming back to shop after my daughters wedding, I'm on a budget at the moment ;)

Blessings,

Sandra, NewBrideCo

Re: Looking for a bit of advice!

Thank you Sandra!! I know I need to go back and re-do some of my pictures...they were from the "early days"....who knew I would have to learn to be a photographer too! LOL!! Do you have any suggestions on titles for me? I get so many mixed ideas from my research....some say to be very specific...."green earrings"...some say not to be too narrow and use "dangle earrings." I have played around and have found if I limit the views go down on some and up on others.
I also have been trying to up the quantity of my listings....hopefully to have enough so people visit my shop and don't say "oh I'm just gonna check another spot and come back." But I find I struggle to manage...making, photographing and listing. I had a good schedule going....until I decided to do a craft show LOL!!!
Please come back to shop!!! Also, I recently just did bridesmaid gifts for a wedding party.....wink wink :)
