Location- more than 1 city?

I notice that many shops have several cities listed. When I set up shop, I remember reading something about listing the bigger (more well known) city if you live in a smaller town.

So- Grand Island is my city. It's between Buffalo & Niagara Falls.
Should I list all 3?
(And does it matter?)

For me, the only time it matters is when I find something overseas... I'd rather buy "local" or at least US made.

There are several reasons to list a few locations. They could be trying to be caught with the Etsy Local search, they could be summer people in one location, or, they could be resellers trying to cover locations to look like they are based in a country that they are not in.

There's no reason to have multiple locations, but it is handy if you're trying to catch a local market for your items.

You can't be searched by location if you have more than one location listed.

I don't see any benefit, it's right up there IMO with eBay sellers who are in China but claim to be in NY so that they'll come up in local searches.

I know two sisters who have one shop together. One is in Virginia and the other in Washington State. They have both locations listed. Nothing underhanded or misleading about it.

That's not the same thing, they both live in those locations. I mean a seller who uses 3 or 4 but only has legal residence in one place.

I'm with Gena on this one, I've heard that you will not be included in local if you have more than one city, since the muti-city is not really a city.. if that makes sense.

I live half the time in New Hampshire and half the time in Florida, so I list both, even though it may keep me from being in local search, it seems less misleading to me than to say one and ship from the other state half the time. :)

Putting my true location and not the major city I live near has helped me connect with local businesses, so having your true location can work to your advantage!

Huh? I didn't know that shops can't be found in a "local" search with more than one location. I guess I'm better off keeping Buffalo. My city doesn't have a strong community of artists (at least not compared to Buffalo).
