Live models

I would love to start using live models for my onesies. I already have some but, people say onesies look better on babies that can sit up. After looking around I totally agree. Problem I'm having with this is no one is having babies. I know one women that is going to be having a baby in October but, last time I checked babies aren't born and already know how to sit up. Any ideas on what I can do instead of a live model?

Re: Live models

Offer a discount to the next customers who can take pics of their babies with your items?

Re: Live models

Hire a photographer?
I would be worried that having some items with live babies and others without would affect your cohesiveness.

But, cute babies wearing star wars onesies are the best. Seriously, in 75 years when I'm ready to have children, they are wearing star wars onesies.

Re: Live models

Janet, I have thought about using a baby doll. I looked around my house and we have currently 2? One that is way to small to wear baby clothes and the other one has glue hairy crap one his head. I will have to look around for one. Plus dolls don't cry, throw fits or poop.
Juila, I will have to think about that. Just sold a onesie and haven't shipped it out yet, I'll have to put that on the receipt for him.
Mallory, I have thought of hiring a photographer but, currently don't have money to do that. And in 75 years when you have children contact me. I'll have some for you.

Re: Live models

I have a baby... But he's of the 'not sitting up' variety. 3 months;)

Re: Live models

I wish my brother was still baby size, he's 9 but disabled so getting him to do things for me isn't bad.
MerlinMN, I can find a hat for the baby, never thought of that. I'll have to see what's in my house and all.
Julia, the little boy in my photos he was 3 months old and he HATES it when you dress him up.

Re: Live models

I look at onsies on Etsy frequently because I like to partner with some of the other shops if their designs work well with my booties. I have no objection with a onsie photographed flat on a plain background - that way I can see the entire front. I also like using models for my sweaters and it is sometimes hard to find a parent that has the right size child and is willing to have the child photographed. I belong to a community group and usually just send out an email to that group to see if they know anyone - or if there are grandchildren around. (I am of that age...) Anyway, I have been able to get referrals and some great shots but it isn't always easy to get an appropriate matchup. So try emailing people on your local email list and see if your friends know anyone. Good luck.

Re: Live models

I just started using a model (neck model) for some of my crudeco stones. I see a difference in views over all.

I have no idea how peeps afford a professional photographer?
That additional cost alone has to be calculated into the final price of each item.

I enjoy the process of learning how to bring my items to life for the customer...........................solo. It keeps my philosophy true, "the only one" and I'm the creator.

I'm a sucker for a baby in a onsie, in hat, rolled up in a blanket or even crying

I have a Grandson folder for all my fav's I want to buy for him.

Re: Live models

How about investing in a doll - a nice one - that will serve you well for photos? Having a baby model or paying for photos/trading for photos is nice...but, remember that this will have to be done repeatedly and indefinitely as you make new onesies.

Another cute way to display them is to clothspin them to a clothsline (make sure the background is crisp and clean (like a fence) and free from distractions.

Search "onesie" on Etsy and see the different ways that they are displayed. Baby models aren't the only way to do it :)

Re: Live models

Thank you guys, I sent out a little not to the customer that just bought from me, I was thinking of doing a clothespin one, down fall is in my township you are not allowed to have one. My neighbor has one because it was grandfathered in. Also my Grandma has one, I'll have to ask if I can use hers. I don't really like doing trades because it's something I'm not sue to doing.

Barbra, I will have to check out your site, I would love to do a partnership with you. I might have to make up some new onesies. I have a bunch on my spare bed that aren't being used. We can always figure something out. I would love to put one of my onesies with you best selling booties.

Crudeo, I'm a sucker for crying babies, babies in hats and on blankets. I might be purchasing a doll so crying isn't going to be there.

Thank you everyone for the input.

Re: Live models

Olivia - was browsing your shop - assuming that this is a type on the scarf listings: "Please not that these are {NOT} to keep your neck warm during the winter... " I would assume that they ARE meant to keep your nexk warm :D

Re: Live models

I do a combination of all the tips mentioned above. lol I have a couple really nice "My Twinn" (name brand) dolls that used to belong to my daughter that I use. I also have a few photographs from professional photographers that I've traded photo props for and a few photos from happy customers that were good enough to use as examples for items in my shop. If a customer does send me pics, first I get it in writing that it is okay to use the photos from the photographer and the child's parents and then I reward them with discounts on future purchases.

Re: Live models

Olivia- You don't have to leave a clothesline up to use one to take a picture or even have a full sized one. Tie up some clothesline between two chairs, pin up the onesie, take the pictures, put everything away until next time.
