I'm having trouble shooting silver, gold and sparkly items (with or without a lightbox). Would love to know the best way to shoot them (especially silver as it always looks dull!) Looking forward to this and many thanks :- )

For me... I think one of the key factors in jewelry photography is natural light. I know there are many other ways to photograph jewelry pieces, but natural light gives me the best results. Altho, I would love to learn how to use a light box, too. For those days that mother nature might not be shining so brightly or for those times that my day got away from me and I need to photograph in the evening.

I usually use a digi camera to photo our necklaces and bracelets and that works well most of the time , especially after a run thru picassa. Recently I have tried my cell phone (Samsung) to try to get pics of very small , hard tp photograph items like gemstone since the camera just does not have a good enough macro
setting and I do not want to spend a fortune on a SLR plus a macro lens.
If you can help on this issue i would be very happy...Marc

This is terrific - thank you. I'm using my iPad and natural light so if there are addtional suggestions It would be great. Stablizer other than a wall, etc? Have a light box set up but found it way to confining. My jewelry is larger that this confinded setting offers. Agree silver- also white pearls are the hardest for me to shoot. Looking forward to learning more and hearing everyones experiences.

Agrees with Ayrel, lighting is my biggest issue. I've not been able to find an indoor set up that even comes close to what natural daylight gives.

If you could remind us what the optimal picture shape and size is, that would be great! Sometimes I revert to square pictures, and I know that's not the best to use
