Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

Hello,

I hope I am not starting a new thread for an already existing thread but I couldn't find anything this specific in other discussions.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about the best day to list new items your shop to reach buyers and previous customers. And, to take it a step further, is there a sweet time of day to list?

I feel that there are two groups of people who look at my listings, fellow Etsy sellers and customers. I realize these are not necessarily different. I love shopping on Etsy and know that fellow Etsians are potential customers. I'm just curious if anyone has noticed a correlation between days/times of listing and customers noticing these items.

Hope this all makes sense and thank you in advance for all helpful advice!

Sheila

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

I have heard from other sellers that listing in the evening is the sweet spot. I'm not sure if I've found that to be true myself or not but I feel I've heard others say that on several occasions.

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

I was wondering if evening would be best. I think people are home from work or finishing for the day. I tend to update listings when I have my first chance. Think I'll try and see if I notice any difference.

I'm not too many time on Etsy and never paid attention, but it's really interesting if there is any correlation at all. I'll be very grateful if you'd share with us what you'll find out.

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

I have been wondering the same and have been experimenting. It´s too soon to tell, but I noticed that it depends on the type of ítems one is selling. For example, I have three shops, This one, another one for doll related and miscellaneous ítems and one for jewelry,

8:00 p.m. I get views in the bead shop and the doll'related shop, but no views for jewelry.

After 6:00 p.m. I get views in the three shops

In any event, here is a thread I found in the Fórums:

I edited this post because I forgot to mention that I am retired. I buy many supplies and other items from Etsy shops and I, not always but usually, shop around 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

This is an interesting topic...

I think there's no specific time preference; however, I usually don't list at late night.

I'd think that it depends on the time zone. Sometimes I get inquires or sales in the early morning, most of them are from East Coast where I am at (or some orders were placed while I was asleep); I also get many inquires and sales during midnight (yes, I work till very late... so many hours!), most of them are from West Coast. That make sense, right? So, maybe evening hours are in between the working hours of East and West, not too early, not too late! :)

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

Thank you for your feedback!

Maria, I looked at the other discussion, so I see I'm not alone. I noticed someone said something about Wednesdays. Funny, I've heard Wednesdays are great for social media (especially Instagram, which I have noticed).

And, since I haven't had many sales, I went back through my history and made a chart of the times that I made sales.

It seems that my sweet spots are between 1 and 3 pm and 8 and 10 pm, both EST. I sell children's items. This makes sense to me now, as I think of 1-3 as nap time and just after 8 pm as children's bed times. Perhaps moms are more apt to shop at those times.

I'm a stay at home mom and do my shopping in the morning though. Hope this helps others out.

I did think that there wouldn't be one formula since we all sell to different types of customers and in different parts of the country and world. But it is helpful hearing what others have noticed.

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

The best days for me to list are any days that end in 'Y'.

The best time is 5:00pm because its always 5:00pm somwhere!

Seriously, Etsy is an international 24/7 shopping venue so whenever you have something ready to list, then go for it. If its not listed it cannot be sold.

If you look at your stats map over a period of time, you will see where people who are looking at your site are from and you can use that as a gauge as well.

Crochetgal took the words right out of my mouth.

I'd like to add this: much more important than the date/time of listing is how much effort you put into promoting that listing (on and more importantly outside of Etsy).

Re: Listing New Items- Best Day and/or Time

BeaG, do you have suggestions for promoting outside of Etsy?

I do think that the updates Etsy now has are helpful for putting a reminder out there to my customers that I have new items in the shop.

I have been listing items once I've been able to take decent pictures of them. I just think that we all have a target audience. So was thinking that putting listings or updates as reminders out there when they are more likely to be seen by my target audience.

I guess I feel that if I list them at whim, I really have to rely on SEO for them to be found in searches since they won't be on the first pages of listings for long.

But, I am so happy to have all this advice! Thank you!
