Lesson learned. Thank God for iphones.

I had quite the scare last week!

I received a convo from someone on the 8th who had purchased a mask for a party weeks prior to wear that night. They stated they had not received the mask, and were disapointed they had no mask for the masquerade that night.

My heart sunk, what happened? Normally I print all of my shipping labels on paypal and send the buyer the confirmation number so they can track orders themselves. For this order, my printer was not working. I hand wrote the address and shipped it at the post office. I put the shipping confirmation in my wallet, and forgot about it (not giving the buyer the tracking number). Also, instead of tracking it myself, I just assumed it had arrived.

I received the convo at work on my iphone (via the Etsy app). I was able to quickly track the package and see that it had a delivery attempt on June 1st, and was waiting for the buyer at the post office. I sent them the info, and they were able to pick it up at 4:51!!! Minutes before the post office closed. They were extreamly happy for my quick response and resolution.

I feel like I learned a great lesson the easy way. From now on I will be diligent on giving every buyer the confirmation number, and also tracking packages myself to ensure they arrive. If I did not have an iphone, I wouldn't have seen the email until after work, and it would have been too late. I was so happy everything worked out. They received their mask, and I receieved a great lesson!

Re: Lesson learned. Thank God for iphones.

I have different emails for notification from Etsy and Paypal. I've gotten one and not the other. This way I feel like I have both my bases covered.

That is great that you were able to fix it so quickly! I will have to remember this myself and make sure I always remember to get that confirmation #!

I feel silly asking, but I am kind of new here and was wondering how does paypal shipping labels work... I know...I have too chicken to give them a try, but could anyone explain? I have shipped all my orders via post office and hope for the best, but I really don't want to end up losing something. :( Thanks for all the help!

Re: Lesson learned. Thank God for iphones.

@Aracely, don't feel silly! I was a bit intimidated as well. Paypal shipping (or any other method of paying for postage online) is great! The biggest benefit is not having to wait in post office lines, and being able to drop things off (or if you ship priority, usps will pick it up). When you go to your paypal account and see the payment from a customer you will see a link that says "print shipping label". Click that link and it will walk you through it. You pay postage through paypal, take the label to your package and its ready to be sent off.

One thing to beware of is that some people have a different address on their paypal account than their etsy account. Match up the etsy transaction address with the paypal address to make sure you are shipping to the right one. Best of luck!

Oh yes, don't go another day without giving it a try! It's the best thing since pnut butter :-). So easy, and I have had no trouble with it...

One thing to note- shipping within the US is actually a bit cheaper if you purchase your postage online, however international orders cost an arm and a leg online and are much cheaper if taken to the post office.

Good luck!

God bless~ Briar

Re: Lesson learned. Thank God for iphones.

Does this work for Canadian postal? Print the labels from PayPal?
Thanks.

Re: Lesson learned. Thank God for iphones.

The thing that has held me back from using it is I'm afraid I won't purchase the correct amount of postage. Does anyone have a good scale that you'd recommend?
