Lack of Commitment

Hi Etsy sellers! Just a question here. I love running my shop and looking to turn it into a company but what are somethings you do to help your day get started? Sometimes well lately i have a hard time just getting started (meaning working on my items).

It can be hard and a blessing when working from home. So many distractions. Is it best to treat it like a 9-5 and have set hours?

Any advice?

Thanks!
Danielle

Re: Lack of Commitment

I work full time and do my shop on the side - plus I have a family at home so it's really important for me to schedule in time for sewing and updating my shop and not spend all my off time working on things for my shop.

Luckily I can do online stuff at my other job - but all the sewing has to be done at home, of course. I usually look at my week and then decide what times will work for sewing time for me and block that time out. I think once you make that appointment with yourself it really helps you follow through and get started. :o)

Re: Lack of Commitment

Hi Danielle,

I understand it is hard when your home all the time to make time for your craft. I am a full time mom with the hope to make my shop successful enough where I don't have to work for anyone else again.

I try to get most of my work done when my kids are sleeping. My small projects go with us in the car (hard to do with drawings though). I find it I only have an extra 10-15 min it helps. I have found writing down goals helps me push harder to achieve them. I make monthly goals as well as a long term goal.

Good luck & best wishes

Re: Lack of Commitment

I work from home and thankfully my kids are at school - its' very hard to stay focused when you see the house is tip around you or you need to get supplies etc. Plus everyone thinks you can "just do this or that for them" because you are at home all day!
I run a successful cross-stitch business online so I have orders to get processed and sent out everyday and on top I'm trying to set up my jewellery business here. Its tough and there are days when I feel less like starting to work than others but you do get used to it and you'll find that you work longer hours than those that work away from home - but when it suits you.

It does have its benefits but there again you are never away from work!!!

Re: Lack of Commitment

Hi Danielle!
I have been without a job for the last six years, and I am not looking for a new one because of my mother's illness.
I try to have a schedule for Etsy, that is
- in the morning, one round of my teams, faving and promoting
and in case I have new items ready, I take the photos

then I dedicate myself to my daily housewife tasks

early in the afternoon, another round of faving and promoting and then preparing the photos for the new listings ... or making new items!

Re: Lack of Commitment

Great idea to schedule 'Etsy time' every day as it can become an addiction otherwise! I tend to do photos after household chores and upload, favourite, teams, etc in the evening after kids in bed!
On a good day I even get to package up sold items!!
( no production though as I do vintage finds!)
Good luck to all with your busy days!
