Keywords?

Hi Etsy friends,

I feel really silly asking this question, but this is puzzling me.

When you look at your shops stats page and you look at your views etc for the week, are the keywords the same as your tags?

If they are, does that mean that most of my tags aren't being searched for?

The top keyword views I have is 4! and its for the word Tea Cozy! Seems very low to me!

Please help me to understand how this works.

Keywords are the terms people used to find your shop.

So if someone is searching for Downton Abbey and lands in your shop, you will find Downton Abbey in your keywords.

The keywords may not be the same as your tags.

I keep an eye on what keywords people are using, especially the ones that I'm not using as tags.

Some of the ones that I find interesting are
crocheting a baby pineapple instructions blanket afghan com
kelly howell (the proper name is Vicki Howell)
wooden 6 pack holder

None of these phrases are in my tags but people have used these phrases in searches and ended up in my shop.

In an average month I'll have about 200 pages of different keywords that people have used to find me.

It's just a guide as to what people are searching for?

Therefore, its a good thing if your keywords match your tags?

I don't try to make my keywords match my tags at all.

The keywords are simply the search phrases that people have used to find your shop.

I see that you haven't been open very long but once you have several months of activity under your belt look on your stats for the past 6 months, year, whatever time period you choose and look at your key words. That will give you an idea of the most common phrases people used to locate your shop. I then converted those keywords to tags and titles.
