I think that's true for anything done by hand. I used to work at a fine department store that offered lovely gift-wrapping (for free). Customers got impatient at the time it took for us to wrap, because they couldn't see the process. Once we moved the wrap area to where customers could see us make the box, fold the garment, layer in tissue, fold more, line the box with more tissue, place in the garment, measure and cut wrapping paper , crease and fold, tape securely, measure and cut ribbon, wrap and tie a bow, repeat for next item, etc....they understood the time involved an could appreciate it.
I think even crafters themselves tend to underestimate how much time they put into their work, especially if you add shopping for supplies, wrapping and printing out labels, promoting your work.....
