I love these interactive, help critique eachother games. I have had invaluable feedback and have appreciated it so much! I have also noticed that I shy away from critiquing a shop because,being a busy mom, it sometimes takes toomuch time to do an adequate and thorough critique.....
With that said, I propose we try this:

Let's act as if we are random shoppers who, like so many do, arejust stopping by to shop.

What is ONE thing that would compel you to shop at my shop?

What is ONE thing that would turn you away?

We can really give eachother some great tips and feedback without having to invest too much time.

What is ONE thing that would compel you to shop at my shop? - I love the bright colors and quality in your items.

What is ONE thing that would turn you away? - Well, it has nothing to do with your items - they are wonderful. It's your intro. I'm a retired English teacher and now a magazine publisher and I really don't like seeing all the capital letters in places where they don't really belong. Sounds dumb, but I do know quite a number of people like me out there who will not deal with it and leave the shop. But, maybe we are the weird ones!

This is a great idea. Thanks for getting it going.

I used to do this with my art student friends when they walked into my art studio - give one compliment and one criticism - very useful and easy to do.

Having looked at your shop I was immediately drawn to the close up of the baby quilt in your featured items, it looked very beautiful.

One criticism - with some of the photos it was difficult to tell what the item was as the photo was quite close up and not in context of its use (and I don't always feel like reading the description).

However, I did get to page 4 of your shop (a good thing!) but I have had 3 glasses of wine this evening (perhaps this is the natural state of some Etsy shoppers anyway??)

I looked at your shop and I can't find any reason not to shop there, GotMilk. You have good pictures and clear descriptions. Good prices, too. In fact, I bookmarked a plate while I was there. Nice collection.

My critique for you would be:

Compel: your prices are great and you have a large inventory of items to choose from. I could spend a long time in your shop just looking around :)

Turn away: Your lacy background works great for your deeply colored items, however, your china and other items that are light in color could use a stronger colored background to help your item stand out. If i see alot of white, my eye tends to not want to squint to try to find the item for sale. Your other colored items, on the other hand, pop out and say "Look at me!"

My feedback is:

Compel: I like the lino prints and collages, especially the blue ones (I'm a sucker for anything blue!) and I think the photos showcase them beautifully.

Turn away: I think that your shop banner and information is a little impersonal and maybe a little too simplistic for me.

Turn away: Not anything really but if I had to pick something I'd say organizing the items together like mobils then, hair accessories, then jewelry, etc.

Compel: I love your background story on your shop...and am loving the diverse amount of items, colors, shapes, and sizes.

Turn Away: The descriptions for the items are a little lengthy...more words, the more people will start to glaze over (this comes from my husband's work as a web designer and website promoter). Less is more...when it gets too wordy, a potential buyer may skip to the next shop or item.

Please take with a grain of salt :) Your shop is truly amazing! Added you to my circle and favorites...

I couldn't find a thing wrong with the appearance your site. It is beautiful. The colors are very engaging and the pictures are very crisp.

The only critique I could see was that you need to change your item names so that the first words in the descriptions are relelvant. For example, mobile and bracelet should be first in you descriptions to help with SEO.

Compel: The uniqueness of your items. Your talent truly shows- and it does help that I am a bit obsessed with owls :) I think that because you have such a large amount of inventory, varying in colors, etc. this also is very appealling to a potential buyer.

Turn Away: I honestly don't have any issues that would turn me away from this shop!

Your shop has great photos! They are simple yet zoom right in on the product. I really appreciate this type of photography in shops. Your prices are also very good!


The only thing that I see negative is your shop banner. The image is very grainy and pixelized. It would be an easy fix if you have the right program to do it.

This is a very cool idea! Flutterbycreations: I have many reasons that would Compel me to shop at your store. Your items are beautiful and beautifully made. They're interesting and varied so a shopper would want to spend some quality time looking through your items.

Turn away: This is tough because your items are all so lovely. The only thing I can think of is that some of the photo's don't do justice to the product. For instance the blue chocolate crane. The lighting is a little muddy in the photo and the true beauty of the beads & paper don't shine through as well as they do in some of the other photo's. Likewise, the white ribbon with clear crystal hair comb is shown up against a white background. A darker color background would really make it pop. I've had similar issues with my photo's and am working on re-taking many of them. All in all though you've got a great thing going!

Compelling - very unique idea - I love it!!
Turn away - only 8 items in stock - for me, a shop needs to be established - that doesn't necessarily mean longevity, but a decent sized stock (2 pages at least). Besides, with only 8 items, it's hard to find something that fits my style, ya know? Granted, you've only been around a few weeks and I'm sure that it takes a while to build up inventory in your niche, but I know you'll get there!

What would COMPEL me to visit your shop would be: EVERYTHING...your items are LOVELY, colorful, great designs, well-photographed!! Beautifully put together. Shall I go on? Lol..

But to be honest, what might TURN ME AWAY would be that I'm not sure what kind of yarn you are using. I did read "worsted weight" but I personally do NOT like acrylic yarns. And I'm not sure if yours are natural or not....so that would be my only hesitation. (But the designs are so cute I 'might' overlook that!)

Turn Away: I really don't have anything that would turn me away from your shop but some of the photo's don't do the items justice. The lighting could be brighter or maybe use natural light. I've got that problem on many of my items and am working on getting new photo's. All in all I think you have a great product and a terrific selection to choose from.
