Is renewing an item still useful?

i've been reading lots of blogs, articles on Etsy successful tips recently. One thing i found out is many sellers suggested to renew the items reguarly.

The recently listed shown on the top of the page is replaced by the ads. Just wonder if renewing items still helpful?

I renew my items. If you have it in your shop then people can see it and possibly buy it.

I renew only when my items are about to expire. Renewing can be helpful but it is one small aspect of the recency system and there is no guarantees it will bring you to the front page of anyone's search. It helps but not nearly as much as it did before. I just renew when it is time to keep my shop full.

I usually renew items when they expire. It bumps it to the top of my Shop, but I haven't noticed that it increases my views in general, especially now with relevancy.

I only renew when they are about to expire or I don't have new items to add.

I see a spike in views every time I renew. That's been the most successful for me.

I have found, for me, that when I renew I get more views, but if I leave it be for a while, my views are almost nonexistent:(. I'm guessing the reason this is, is because my shop has very few items right now. I'm guessing that if I had a lot more it would not be as needed:)

I heard (now I don't know if this is correct or not) that renewing still helps. Supposedly if you renew your item bounces around on the first few pages of search for a while even though it is now by relevancy. I always renew one item every day if I don't have items sold.

I decided since my shop was small my money wasn't best spent on renewing (although I do sometimes). I've had a lot more views since the relevancy change so I'd focus on tagging items very descriptively before I'd renew.

I try to renew items when I see my views go down. I dont know if it helps but it makes me feel like I am doing something to help get views.

I think so. I used to have a small amount of views per day if any and would only renew my items close to them expiring. Now I started renewing a couple of items a day and my numbers skyrocketed..(easy to do when your starting point is zero! :)) All the views may not corelate into sales but at least it gets you exposure by someone adding your shop to their favorites or liking one of your listings etc. then other people see it that way too.

I definitely think so. I don't do it, but I think it's very helpful. If you narrow down what you're looking for by category, instead of going through search, everything's still sorted by recency. And I think that's how a large portion of people look for items, anyway. So renewing still has its place, especially if you're in a category with a lot of competition.

I noticed while doing my accounting that as soon as I renewed three different items, all three sold pretty much immediately. So based on that, and more than just that instance as well, I think renewing really does help. I just don't have the budget for it, so I wait and hope, and my item usually sells once it expires and I renew then. :)

Yes,you pay every the .20 listing fee every time you renew. I renew often and notice that when I don't, my views go down dramatically. So, I look at it as part of my advertising budget and renew a couple of items a day.

I never thought about renewing every couple of days... but I do renew when my handmades get sold or if my items expire... It seems to help sometimes....

I renew when it's been a little while since I've posted a new item. Seems to make a difference! That and tweaking my titles :D

Personally, the only time I will renew an item is if its about to expire.

I relist sold items (if I've got another) and will try to add at least one new item every day.

I really resent paying Etsy any more than the $.20 for a single listing.

I generally have at least a few items expiring each day however.

The relevancy search still uses recency as part of the algorithm so having some fairly recent items is still a must in my opinion.
