Is it wrong if...

Pulled you all in with the title didn't I?

But honestly though, I just received a card through the door for a parcel that they were unable to deliver (were able to deliver the bloody card though *rolls eyes*) because the sender didn't use the correct postage.

It came from either Etsy or Ebay (Ebay, I think) and they didn't pay the correct postage by 12p, so I have to pay it.
I'm not going to complain about how stingey the post office can be sometimes (I once got a card that said the sender hadn't paid an extra 1p), I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on the matter.

I'm going to pay the difference because I wouldn't have bought whatever it is if I didn't want or need it, so 12p doesn't bother me at all, I have that in my pocket, and I'm also going to contact them and let them know about it so it doesn't happen to someone else who might get a little bit annoyed at it, though I don't need it refunded at all, but what I wondered is what would you think if you bought from someone and this happened? Would you be annoyed? Would you leave negative feedback, or would you just not say anything?

Very annoying, you'd think the Post Office had a cut off point beyond which they would not bother (i.e. cost of post card to tell you you need to pay 1p!!) I'd let the sender know the postage was out, but I'm not sure I'd leave negative feedback for it. It could be the post office depot fault (unless they've pre-printed their postage stamp at home?)

I would do what you are doing - let the seller know but not leave negative feedback. Life is too short to worry about 12p :)

Re: Is it wrong if...

In a situation like this, I would assume that the seller made an honest mistake.!
I would let him/her know what happened so the problem can be corrected, just as you mentioned.

I would Not give a negative feedback for an honest mistake.

Re: Is it wrong if...

Here I am thinking 12 p is like $12 sorry for being uncultured. If it is little I would notify them but not leave negative feed back. Lots of times I do my postage at home and then when I get to the office it is more. This happens too often and they always say that I must have made a mistake but really could I be making this many mistakes

Re: Is it wrong if...

If it is coming from another country it could be custom fees and that is technically the buyers responsibility. Ive had to pay those before and its not really the sellers responsibility to know what the custom fees are going to be. Here if someone doesnt pay the correct postage they dont even deliver it to you. Thats just how it is where I live.

I wouldn't say anything at all, though I would be annoyed. I think though that I would be more annoyed at the post office than the seller. Like Liz said... "how much does the card cost?"
I'm just generally not a fan of bureaucracy... post office, be annoyed at the post office.
:) Just my 2 p.

Re: Is it wrong if...

I think I would tell the seller in case they were home-weighing their parcels and their scales are out of something. It seems like too small an amount to be done out of dishonesty, sounds more like a mistake. I'd probably be pleased if they got back to me with a reason/apology for why it happened, but i wouldn't leave them negative feedback. I'm pretty laid back, knowing how things can be from the selling end, I guess!

Re: Is it wrong if...

That's exactly why I haven't stopped taking every package I mail to the post office and making sure the exact postage is applied. I'd hate for a package I mailed to arrive to a customer and for them to have to pay extra for postage. I personally wouldn't leave negative feedback if I were the customer, but you never know who WOULD leave negative feedback and it's just not a risk I'm willing to take--despite how many people tell me I should just print the postage at home.

Re: Is it wrong if...

That is frustrating, however it could have been the sellers fault. I always see people asking questions on if they should round up or down. SO i think that some people round down figuring it wont matter and it does. Also it is possible that they weighed without the envelope etc etc. It sucks, and i would definitly let the sender know so they can figure out how to keep it from happening again.

Re: Is it wrong if...

It's happened to me before. I let the seller know, because it was irritating, but I didn't ask for a refund because it was a trifling amount and I didn't leave neg feedback, which is something I reserve for truly egregious things, not minor irritations or honest mistakes.
