Is it seasonal?

This month is the first month since I opened my shop, that my sales figure has not gone up, in fact its dropped quite dramatically.

Ok so maybe people dont buy so much yarn in spring and summer? Does anyone know?

What can I do to increase my sales again for this time of year? I have started making some laceweight yarns suitable for summer knits, does anyone else have ideas on what I can offer to pick up my sales again? And does anyone else here know what yarn sales are like in different seasons? I havent been selling long enough online to find out :)

Also, how can I target countries that are going in to winter, what chance do I have of selling yarn to Australians? :D

Any and all feedback truly welcome

x

Re: Is it seasonal?

Hi Suzy,
Your yarn is beautiful and congrats on the sales you've had so far! Do you have a blog or facebook page? If so, one idea I had was to list summer projects that involve yarn - either tutorials you create or you repost with permission from others. That way people would get inspired about what they could make and are likely to purchase materials that are right there. Thought that may help! Good luck!

oh thats a great idea! I do have a FB page and generally have lots of interaction happening there, I might even ask people to post their own summer projects there too :) Thanks Julia!

Hmm. Maybe try tagging some of it as good for a mother's day present? That seems to be driving a lot of treasuries/sales lately.

It's absolutely gorgeous yarn. I kinda want to cuddle it and keep it and love it forever.

Re: Is it seasonal?

Hi Suzy!
Oh my goodness, your shop is fantastic! Your yarn is beautiful!
My sales were going well, mini skeins selling pretty much within a day of uploading and then it all of a sudden stopped. No sales for about 3 weeks, so I asked the same question as you in this forum and was told that it might be a seasonal thing.
However, the 'dry spell' only lasted a few weeks, it is all back to normal. I think adding a lace weight yarn is a great idea. How about putting that in the first 3 words of your title ( which are the most important)? So start your title with Lace Weight.
Play around with your titles and tags, I am sure the sales will pick up again.
Good luck! :)

I'll pin a few of your yarns on my Pinterest, I hope that will bring some traffic in! :)

Your yarn is lovely, would it be possible to write in your descriptions how many metres there are or the recommended knitting needle size, that may help your sales.

Re: Is it seasonal?

I thing the lighter yarns are a good idea. You could already try to rearrange your shop so that the lighter yarns show up first, right now your featured items are all yarns that look very warm.
Another thing I was thinking about would be to try and advertise your shop to Australia, where it is now autumn. I'm sure there must be an Australian team somewhere here ?

Re: Is it seasonal?

You could also do Christmas in July here on Etsy. I haven't heard anything about it yet for this summer but I know that Etsy just had people add a CIJ or Christmas in July tag to their items and offer some kind of discount like a % off or free shipping... Something to consider. I'm sorry I can't be of more help about yarn though. I don't really work with it.
