I'm in NJ, about 15 miles from the shore. I was only just returned to power last night since losing it Monday around noon. Our local post offices do not have power. We are receiving very little mail as it trickles in, but they are unable to process the bulk of it without electricity. We are on gas rations, there is a curfew in effect for the area and most businesses are not up and running so I would say without a doubt, yes.. the hurricane and aftermath of it is going to have an effect on anything being shipped into this immediate area (NJ and NY for sure.)
There is nothing we can do other than hope and pray that they are able to sort all of this out as quickly as possible. I have seen power trucks in the area from VA, SC, GA etc. all trying to get everything back up and running but there is a ton or debris and trees that need to be cleared before they can even begin to work on the lines. Most of this area is decimated. I have seen people having to use their furniture for firewood to try to stay warm and the wait for gas even with the ration is up to four hours. Houses/offices are washed away. The lack of mail and being able to receive/make deliveries is definitely an inconvenience and I can only hope my customers understand. My priority though has had to be keeping my four children safe, warm and fed as well as possible and I'm sure it's no different for the local postal workers in affected areas.
