Is January normally slow?

I know it may seem obvious to some but is January really slow or has anyone been hoppin'? I heard today on the news they called today 'Happy monday' because we're finally over the Christmas spending slump and headed for happy Valentine's Day.

Any feedback on this? Do things tend to pick up in Feb.?

Re: Is January normally slow?

It's definitely slower than Nov. and Dec., but much better than in summer. As to Feb., I don't know, just hope for the best... :)

Re: Is January normally slow?

I've actually sold almost as much dollar wise in January as I did in December. But I'm pretty sure that's due to the fact that I started offering a listing for a chain upgrade to all of my pendants and I've gotten quite a few people JUST buying a chain. Guess my pendants suck...

Re: Is January normally slow?

Well, my jewelry shop was just slow in general, but I did get two sales this month.
Summer is slow, but that's always when all the craft fairs and things are going on, so supplementing your income outside of etsy isn't difficult :)

I'm really hoping for some Valentine's Day jewelry sales on my other store, though! :D

Re: Is January normally slow?

I'm finding things really slow too, and its summer here in Australia I wonder if I need to factor this in .
Or maybe its the strength of the Aussie dollar ?.
I feel like I have to constantly repost and adjust tags to get any action ,

very disenchanting time year.

Re: Is January normally slow?

Well, I was hoping for an after holiday "lull" to get caught up, but in my shop that has not happened. I am as busy as November and December - I guess in the baby business there is no "season":) I also think that as still a relatively new shop word is just getting out there now...not sure what to expect for summer either!

As far as viewership! it is up, but dollar wise it is defiantly down, but I expected that! Still the 2nd month behind December! :))

Re: Is January normally slow?

Not for me, I have had my second biggest selling month on Etsy so far. I've sold 29 items, hoping for at least 2 more sales this month as my goal for 2012 is an average of 1 item per day. I am very happy with my sales! I've been working my fingers off since November and it is paying off!

Re: Is January normally slow?

I've always heard that January is slow, and usually I find that true; but this year my January sales have been just as high as those during my Christmas season. Summer is always slow for me, which is great because all I want to do during the summer is hit the beaches with my family. ;0)

I do know, from past experience that business picks up in the spring. (Easter through Mother's Day and Graduation) Hope that helps.

Re: Is January normally slow?

Wow, I opened my shop with my bows on January 15th and have had only 1 sale and that was to my sister. A lot of people are looking but nobody is buying. Is this normal or is my stuff not good enough?

Re: Is January normally slow?

I think so, because its right after christmas, but then again, valentines day is a big jewelry holiday, so i guess it could go either way depending on what you sell.

Re: Is January normally slow?

Jan-
I think your bows are really cute! Just give your shop some time :) I just opened this shop, but I've sold other places online and have been relatively successful, but it took almost 6 months to get a steady stream of customers. Just keep listing items and trying to promote your stuff and you'll find sales in no time!

Definetly slow! I don't know what to do! Sometimes i sell an item and here comes selling factor one after another. Suddenly stops and it's been like this for more than a week! I sold some items this january, but not enough!

Re: Is January normally slow?

Jan your bows are beautiful and pretty enough to make it into lots of treasuries but you need to take the letter number thing out of at least the first picture, it is making them look like funeral flowers.

Re: Is January normally slow?

Hi Jan. Your bows are beautiful. You might want to have a look at how you word your titles. Relevancy means that people will type in what they are looking for. Gift wrapping, gift decoration, floral decoration, gift box wrapping,. floral bouquets etc. then remember to have those descriptive words first in line on your tags. there's heaps of info on relevancy, plus have a look at 'google adwords- keyword tool' to help give you some ideas. Hope that helps. but definately hang in there,it takes a while to get going. I think you should do well.
