Is 100 Listings the Magic Number?....

Let's hope so, I just listed my 100th listing :) I keep hearing that people started getting more sales after listing 100 or more items in their shops, any body else experience this? I am trying to keep hope alive, so tell me your good stories!!

In my opinion, there really isn't any 'magic' number. If you have a wide variety of items, and market them well, you can be successful with just a few listings.

I carry only 20+ listings for my soap dishes and they continually sell. My key is that I market outside of Etsy to my target audience.

No, not really - I just cleared 150, and it hasn't done a thing for me. But then, jewelry is rather oversaturated - I've heard people say in Jewelry, you gotta have 300 items to sell regularly.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no, there is no magic number :( As others have said, some shops with very few items can be doing great and others like mine have over 100 (around 150) and it doesn't seem to make enough difference for it to be called a 'magic number'. However, I do believe that for some things it does help to have a larger selection of items. There are factors to consider, what's the item's main purpose, aesthetic or functional? If it is mainly for decorative purposes, a larger selection is very important as tastes differ significantly. If it was mainly functional (with a craft or art involved, of course) maybe just a few listings would be enough. I'm thinking also of In-N-Out who is successful with a small menu...
Anyway, I don't like 'talking' too much, and I'm starting to, but I hope these ideas help...

It was literally magic for me! The night I listed my 100th item - I woke up the next morning to a sale...then I listed again and had exactly 100 listings again and the same day I made another sale! Two sales in one day was a record for me!:) But yeah, the more listings you have the better of a chance you are going to get seen.

I hear that, and my goal is 100 by the end of summer. I was doing great -- then yesterday and today, I lost my creativity.

I suppose setting goals is a way to stay motivated whether or not there really is a magic number.

I don't think 100 listing is the "magic number" but it is how you get there. If you work on your items, listings, promoting, marketing then you will see the difference. Than if you just list to get 100 listings. The difference is how you get there. What is that saying, "it's not the destination but the journey". I think the same applies here. It's how you get to your goal that matters.

This discussion is helpful. I agree with the comments above that jewelry and other decorative items seem to require volume to begin picking up sales. I think people are more motivated to buy when there are a number of similar items in your shop to compare. But, so far, this is just a theory of mine. I hope to get to 100 items this year, and maybe then I will have a little more evidence to support the theory (100 items was one of my new year's goals, so I still have half a year to make it happen).

Last summer, I was trying to get to 100 - I couldn't, because every time I listed something, something else would sell. If you'd asked me this question last year this time, I would have said yes. LOL

For some reason, I'm very slow right now in both shops, and I normally actually pick up in the summer. I did very well last summer, so I have no idea what's going on.
