What kind of music or other things do you listen to while you create? I'm just curious if people have a specific playlist they listen to or if you just listen to whatever is on the radio at the moment.
I'm looking for new things to inspire me to create!
I use Spotify. I have all different kids of playlists. I normally listen to two different stations. I have my favorites which is my pop, and rock and then I'll listen to my Christian station which has 423 tracks on it and several different artists and bands. Normally I sign along while listening to music so sometimes I get distracted.
I love listening to chill out electronica or ambient music. Something soft and instrumental to get those creative juices flowing. I actually just discovered a great online radio station called Jango. Lots and lots of variety.
I mostly listen to podcasts, classic rock music and books - and I can't say they help me "create" in any way. I need a visuals to get my creative juices flowing - magazines...craft festivals...advertisements... they all help me come up with new design ideas.
Grateful Dead, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Collective Soul, Brand New, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix... And usually going to the ocean or camping out in the redwoods for long periods is what recharges my creativity.
I just watch TV. I usually work during nap time so I catch up on my DVR'd stuff or after Abby goes to bed so whatever the husband and I want to watch.
Music doesn't help me be creative. I find I just surf Pinterest a lot and take bits and pieces of things and add them all together and put a new spin on it.
Music and inspiration don't go together for me. I find plenty of inspiration inside my head, but preferable in silence. My favorite 'music' while creating is to just hear the birds singing in my back yard. I often wish there was a magical button to switch of all other sounds. Of course I love music, but not while I'm designing/creating.
Our local rock station, 105.5 is what I try to listen to on the computer, otherwise I put on my IPod. Lately it's been Avenged Sevenfold's new album, but anything rock or alternative keeps me sane. If I'm not listening to something, then I'm singing or humming to myself.
I listen to a lot of NPR - Morning Edition, The Diane Rehm show, and This American LIfe. When I get tired of talk I listen to my itunes - Johnny Cash, WIlco, Talking Heads, The Shins, Radiohead... to name a few.
But I don't really use music and radio to inspire me. It's mostly to occupy my chattering left brain while my right brain does the work.
