Important Update on Outright

This was my original post here on these threads:

I never heard of Outright until Etsy talked about it in their latest blog about business tax filing.
It sounded good so I was all set to sign up until I got to the part where they list what they can have access to in your shop....

this one did not sit well with me...

•See your private shop data and Edit your shop, including description, policies, sections and banner

What? Why would they want to do that?
Am I reading or interpreting this wrong?

Any insight would be appreciated!

AnnMarie

Here is the reply from an Outright CS rep:

I have received two such emails this morning, and I will tell you that I
honestly have no idea where that information is coming from. It is utterly and
completely untrue. Please be assured, we only have one-way access to your data,
and that is only to import it. Data moves into Outright, never out of it.

> One of the best things about Outright is that it cannot write, edit, alter,
change, add to, or deduct from source data at any data provider, from Etsy to
the smallest credit union. This is one of our better qualities, because it
necessarily avoids a whole host of potential problems, from basic privacy
intrusions like the ones you have listed to major financial fraud or theft.
Please let me be clear: Outright in no way, shape, or form can do these things,
nor can Outright's employees or executives.

Re: Important Update on Outright

I am also curious about whether Outright has to have access to your banking information to work?

Re: Important Update on Outright

Cynthia, they do need access to your banking information so they can port in your payments/expenditures. That said, I have my business account linked so that anytime I pay with that debit card or check it gets recorded. I do not have my personal account linked as there's no point.

Re: Important Update on Outright

No it doesnt have to access your bank at all. mine isnt, just connected to paypal and etsy.

Now when I Do use my regular checking to buy supplies(which i try to avoid by having a PP debit Card) I have to remember to go input that purchase.
