If they buy more than one, why doesn't etsy count the second one too?

I have had people buying more than one at a time, so why don't they both show up under the sales in my shop?

erm, cuz? Something in the software I think, its a bit annoying though. I've had that happen too.

it would be nice I would definitely give me more sales that's for sure! I hope they work on that in the future to show the "real" sales I've made.

It has always been that way. No one knows why, but it is not something they are thinking about changing as far as anyone knows.

While it would be nice to increase the number to show your shop has had more individual item sales, I think it seems more accurate the way it currently is. If a customer is buying 2 items at once, it still is 1 order, so I would think of it as 1 sale.
I have another business selling hair dye on my own website (not etsy) and if someone buys 3 bottles of hair dye, the shopping cart software is going to count that as 1 sale. it makes sense. When I enter an order into quickbooks, it is counted as 1 sale, not an individual sale receipt for each item purchased by the same customer, you know? So why should it be different on etsy?

I guess that does make sense, I think what we are saying though is the item count sold should show, or at least that is what i mean. I would like it if it did show the item count sold and the sales. but I am happy either way as long as I'm making sales lol :)

I think we have a way to count orders filled and items sold is still a valid number that would be good to know. if 5 different people on 5 different orders buy 1 each of the same thing and someone else buys 4 on one order I want to know BOTH that I sold 6 orders and 9 items.

They're BOTH helpful information for my business.

Agreed, I had asked Etsy about that when I noticed it happening. Since we get charged to renew either way and they take their cut, either way....I would like to see the individual items sold tallied, since we already can see the total orders via our shop stats. Didn't sound like they were planning on changing it though :(

I often wondered about this, but it makes sense to count it as one sale, but wish they would show how many items sold if it is more than one.

I'm hoping to reach 200 sales by end of Nov, my etsy anniversay, I would have reached that number if sales were figured differently, oh well

"Sales" are different than "Items Sold". You could sell 3 items in one sale, for example. You can actually find both numbers in your stats - one's listed in your "Sold Orders" page and "Items Sold" on your shop homepage, I believe.
