I need advice for my camera :)

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of getting my first macro lens for taking pictures of jewelry but I'm not sure whether to get a 60mm or 105mm lens so I need all the advice I can get :)

Thanks!
Erin

Re: I need advice for my camera :)

I just got my new toy yesterday and I love it!! Its a nikon coolpix s9300. Its allowed me to take great close ups. I can't take pictures any today due to the wind. :( The picture below is one of the first ones I took using my new toys. :D I hope that helps.

Wow, it's so crisp and clear :) I'm using a Nikon and my husband wants to get a lens for me but I don't really understand the difference between 60mm and 105mm lens..

I think it has to do with how close or the distance you can shot from.....but I can be wrong.

Pretty photo Dragon Whisper 76! Did you ever have or use the Nikon 9100? Just read a review and wondering if the price differance is worth it?? Anyone out there know??

Also, have you ever shot glass beads or jewelry with it? I am in the market for a camara and will mainly shoot glass/lampwork beads.

Re: I need advice for my camera :)

Thank you Erin! I spend way too much on my new toy already. I'm afraid to find out how much the Nikon 9100 is LOL!

Re: I need advice for my camera :)

Actually the 9100 is the older model and the review was saying that their was only a slight change between it and the 9300. That is why I was asking if anyone knew the differnce? Or if anyone has used the Nikon 9100 or 9300 to photo lampwork or glass??

Re: I need advice for my camera :)

Erin, if you're still following this thread ... your choice should depend on (1) the size of your pieces, (2) the distance at which you will be shooting and (3) your budget. The 105 is a more useful lens, especially if you can't get up right up close to your subjects. But the 60 is a great lens too -- it's just a bit more limiting.

Here is a link with a discussion on both lenses for a Nikon camera. If you scroll the page to the bottom, you'll be able to see photos taken with both the 60mm and the 105mm.
