I'm new and afraid of disappoinment.

Hi, I opened my shop a week ago. I make miniatures and some jewelry. But it seems I'll not have so much sales. Is it too early to be afraid? Or should I do something immediately?

Oh gosh don't be disappointed!!! It may take a while to get that first sale, but it will come. One week is nothing. just keep adding more to your shop - you can never have too much choice. Your photos are great. I know nothing about miniatures (other than I am astounded at the work it must take!) But think there must be some miniatures teams here that might have more specific info for you regarding listing and selling minis.

I love this:

I know that a lot of people like the "person" avatar, but with a new business and a name that doesn't explain your product, you might want to think about using one of your minis in your avi. Won't necessarily get you sales, but will spread the idea of your product within the forums.

I love you work! You will get out of your shop what you put into it. When sales slump for me, I get in there and work on my listings, post new items and get on the team boards and create treasuries. Then I get a sale and feel encouraged again.

Re: I'm new and afraid of disappoinment.

Never stop working on, improving and growing your shop. That is my #1 piece of advice for you and any new seller. You never know when that first sale will come, but if you are continually adding new product, improving photos, promoting your work within and outside of etsy, there is a much better chance of getting that elusive first sale faster.

So yes, be patient as in, don't panic or worry. But don't be so patient that you sit back and wait for sales to come. They will come with lots of hard work and commitment. Good luck - you have a lovely shop!

Re: I'm new and afraid of disappoinment.

I've been here since January and I'm still barely making sales. It takes time and effort.

Think of it like a real brick and mortar business: you have to advertise heavily and invest into the business just like they do.

And here's a secret to Etsy: they don't advertise their site so it's up to each of US to advertise our shops independently. Meaning, you will either get customers already on here or you will have to look outside of Etsy to get your sales. Or both.

Good luck!

You'll be fine. Having a business takes time and patience. Just have fun making your miniatures and jewelry and post as many as you can a little bit at a time. It took me some time before I got my first sale and I was so happy and excited. You'll soon get a sale. Remember Christmas is around the corner.

Good Luck!

Re: I'm new and afraid of disappoinment.

Yes! That is the key. Keep working. I've heard it takes some 2-3 years to be successful.

And remember, those bit sellers here have been here that long, so it takes a lot of work and a lot of time.

The biggest difference between here and Ebay is that Etsy doesn't promote their site - they aren't really well known. So we really have to do all the work to promote ourselves.
