I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

It's very difficult to get started in etsy. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve my store. Or any other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Your shop is fine. I just took a look at it. Your pictures seem clear. All I suggest is listing more items because the more you list, the possibility of sales you get. Believe in yourself and have fun. You need a lot of patience because not everybody buys everyday. It might take days, weeks or even months before you get a sale. Look at me. It took many months before I made my first sale. After that, it's been slow as hell. Have faith and things will get better. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

No worries, we all started somewhere.
I say: more items, more patience, better photos, more advertisement.
:) Have a great day! Keep your head up high!

I took a look and your shop is fun and colorful. I love the bracelet cuffs. In the description of the bohemian cuff I would try to tell me why I need it and give me a feeling of where and when I can wear it. I have had no sales yet either. Let's hang in there. Good luck!

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Hang in there! I don't think your stuff is "too weird" It's fun and different, which will make you stand out :)

Just keep plugging away, list some more items, promote, work on tags and titles. I'm still new and working on all of that too. Plus, from what I hear, there is a lull after Christmas, so it's a slow time for a lot of us.

Best of luck to you!!

I think your bracelet cuffs are very fun and unique! This is one in particular is amazing and I love it!

I am no expert, but I would maybe change your banner so that the shop name is included and also maybe a phrase that describes what you sell.

The pictures are great and your items. I think you just need to add more, advertise and be patient. You will have sales coming in no time <3

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

I'm going to tell you a retailer's secret that was told to me when I started.
Try to stay away from prices such as $25. A buyer sees a 20 dollar bill and a 5 dollar bill leaving and no change coming back. If the item is listed for $24 a buyer can visualize getting back $1. It even goes for online sales because it is all visual and not actual until the transaction.

Try playing around with your prices. Possibly list different prices (one at $24, one at $26) and see what happens.

Let me know if it helps!!
Good luck!

@tillalilly - I've never heard that. I may try that see what happens. Do you think that at say $23 or $24 they still see $20 ?

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Do this shop self critique. It may help. http://etsy.me/A5xgu2

And be realistic...you haven't even had your shop for a month. You can't expect to list a few things and have people rush to buy you out. Be patient, promote and keep adding and 'they' will come!

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Your shop is wonderfully colorful and original... and also fairly new. It takes times to make that elusive first sale. For me, Etsy has been full of highs and lows. With every sale, I am euphoric. But between every sale, I start feeling depressed and looking at my shop with a critical eye. I think selling on Etsy may be difficult for creative people because we tend to be sensitive and pour so much of ourselves into our creations. All we can do is just keep trying. Best of luck to you!

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Click on people to be in your circle, they usually click you back. I think when you list an item, people will know about it.

Also, maybe where your bracelets, I had to read the description to figure out what it is, (even though you know what it is, obviously it's a bracelet), others, who have never visited your shop, might not know what it is.

I would say more items and clearer photos.

But really, we all start somewhere, I mean we're starting and I'm learning as we go. I just changed my whole shop's background, (and still working on completing it)... feel encouraged because it does take time, and twinkling your shop to see what works. Also, maybe commenting here and there or clicking on people's stuff, I always look to see who's clicking on my stuff, and I add them to my circle. More connections, is not only fun, but beneficial. All the best for you and your shop! :) :)

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

your shop is nice. i will be short.
1.TAGS where are the tags? you need to tag your items in order to be find
2.Price i only find 59 usd or 24 usd items.. maybe a litle bigger price range would help. can you make something cheaper? maybe your accesoires should be more kids orientated, or you could do some kids stuff...
3.Teams go in some treasury teams, start helping promote others, it is good karma and helps.
4. Circle : you are only in abouth 50 circles, add people and network
hope this is helpfull, the best of luck!

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

I'm seconding what others have said so far. I would like to add that to me your items are very 'hip', but your background is 'granny'. If you sold vintage I could see using the tatted background, but for your products I have a disconnect there.

My first impression was your banner doesn't seem to match up. I would definitely put your shop name in the banner as well for us visual folks.

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

You have just started.

Your banner is nice but may distract the eye from store items. Write a welcome message.

Descriptions are good.

Write more in your profile.

As your shop grows you will need more items. Photos and items are fine.

Try using the custom order facility when you are more experienced.

More time is required.

Fuller shop policies are needed.

Enjoy crafting and I wish you a lot of sales.

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Don't worry. I've been on Etsy since October 2011, and not sold a thing in my shop. However, I did get one person who contacted me about making 4 custom orders. I was shocked, and didn't expect that. I just mailed her 2 of them, she called and told me how absolutely wonderful they were, and how much she loved them. Wants me to make 2 more.

Things may seem slow, but one day, you'll check, and be surprised that someone bought something. For me, no one bought directly from my shop, but she did ask me to make something custom for her. I still sold some, but also got some new ideas to add to my shop as well.

Just don't give up. I almost did, and this happened. Anything is possible with patience.

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Katy,

We all feel this way when starting out. Etsy is so much harder than it looks!

This blog was such a huge help to me, and it still helps to look back at it:
http://etsymentors.blogspot.com/p/critique-your-own-shop.html

The Etsy Seller Handbook has a great breadth of information and really helped me pull my shop image together. The articles on photography and branding are a great place to start.

I looked at your tags, and you need to use all 13. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) which basically comes down to your titles and tags, is crucial for being found on Etsy. The keyword terms you use in your title need to also be used in your tags.

I give some examples here:

http://www.etsy.com/teams/5002/etsy-success/discuss/9774933/

You can have the best photos in the world, but if your titles and tags aren't working for you, it will be hard for buyers to find your shop.

Good luck!

Aman

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Don't be discouraged, I agree with everyone else. Add more items, change your shop banner if you can (there are loads of gorgeous banners for sale cheaply here on Etsy) and include your shop name in your banner.
Your stuff is beautiful

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Excellent advice here from everyone. Keep going as one day when you may be thinking you are a failure something positive will just happen and you will feel differently. This happens to all of us with etsy shops. Your shop is lovely and I agree with all the other advice, add some more items when you have time. I will add you to my circle now. Lots of luck. Coralie.

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Katy, don't despair...your stuff is unique and original. Well done on getting this far, there's so much to think about!

I wonder if being more clear about what age it's for, or maybe photograph them on someone's wrist, just so it's more immediately clear what they are and who they might be for?

Have a think about your target market and then word and frame everything in your shop with that target in mind...

As others have said, tags are of utmost importance, too.

Hang in there and all the very best!

Esther

Re: I'm getting depressed. I think my stuff is too weird.

Hello katy!:-) Cheer up!!! You must believe and have patience. I have about 250 items and i sold of 4. And i continue to upload more and more and more. My opinion is that when you decide to stop something , you must be sure that you've done anything that was possible for your success. Read read read...many articles here are very helpful. Most of us we try to be better and better. Think how many photos are uploaded to etsy, how many photos you have, and you'll realize that is not so easy for customers to find you. Keep uploading!!!Wish you the best!!!! I like your items!!!!
