I just noticed this in "Trending"

I was just browsing etsy trending (www.etsy.com/trending) for inspiration and to see what was trendy right now. I noticed something kind of interesting. I HUGE amount of the trending products show a person modeling the product on the first picture. Either a close up of a ring on a finger or a person modeling a piece of clothing. What do you all think about this? Why are those items trending?

I think it's because with handmade, buyers want to see what something actually looks like on someone. They can see style, size and color and actually see how an item is worn and if it would work for them. I notice pennant banners are hung on something, which gives a sense of size and space. Those people who are visual and spatial benefit from photos like this rather than the item next to a measuring device like a ruler.

Interesting. I have always read to avoid showing a model in your first photo, but rather, put a modeled photo later in the photos. Maybe a model photo is more eye catching to people.

Funny, because I seem to always check out the model photos. It must be the right brain in me, haha!

I have some with just white backgrounds and some with models as my first picture because I gravitate to model pictures more than plane white backgrounds. I figured I can't be the only one who likes to see how something can be styled.

That is interesting!!! Thanks for sharing - I didn't eve know Etsy had a trending section (I can't believe I didn't know this!). One more place to look to see if anything I do fits in ;)

Just sharing my own opinion (you don't have to agree), but...
I joined Etsy 8 years ago in the spirit of the handmade movement.
I don't follow trends, I set trends.
Everything I design and make did not exist untill I made it up (yes, of course my ideas have inspired others since I started selling them).
So I never quite got the Etsy trending section. Why would we want to make what everyone else makes? Isn't that what all the large corporations do?
My advice: be creative, be unique!

I have always been told personally by friends that having the jewelry on a real person kind of grosses them at....So, I just use a mannequin....
