I just looked at my conversion rate and it's so low - how can I fix that?

I know that Etsy says to aim for 3% - but right now I'd be happy with even 1%. When I calculate it, I get 0.1%!

That makes me feel like I'm missing a lot of opportunities for sales, and I'm trying to figure out why. The common suggestions are to fix up photos and descriptions - but I'm not sure what to do as I'm pretty thorough on both fronts. Any ideas?

The only thing I can see as to why someone might not be completing a sale is the price. I understand that your products are of very high quality and that they take a long time to make. But I cannot imagine paying $30 for a single luggage tag, plus $9 for shipping.

Also in the description you give shipping time and info. Why would it take 3-5 business days to ship out something you have in stock? That, for me, would be a deal breaker. If you have it in stock, it should be out that day or the next.

Other than that, your pictures look great and very well made.

Obviously you have been at this much longer than I with great success, so you can take or leave what I have to say :)

Elizabeth, your answer made me go back and look at my shop - shipping out time and costs. I modified almost every one of my items and decreased the numbers on both of those. I don't want to ship for free, but I know how much I hate paying shipping charges on things I buy online! Can't have it both ways, I guess. Thanks for your thoughts.

Worrying about conversion rate is absolutely pointless. What you should do instead is have a sales target in dollars. Imagine you sold real estate and advertised in a new paper with circulation in the millions. You wouldn't care if one person or a hundred thousand saw your ad as long as you made the sale. Views, favorites, conversion rate doesn't pay bills or buy materials/inventory - money does.

Free shipping? There is no such thing. When I retailer says an item ships free they really are saying shipping cost is bundled with the item. It's not like they're taking money out of their pockets and paying the shipping for you. You're paying for it, you just don't know how much.
