I just finished a website to connect with my Etsy Shop... Opinions?

Hello! I decided to try a free website ( wix.com) to create extra viewers. I have just finished my basic website. The website is meant create more SEO through google and get people through the website to click my links and then they will go to my Etsy shop from there. If you can set up an Etsy shop you can set up a website but it is time consuming!! I would like to know if anyone would like to take a look and have any thoughts or opinions on the actual website. Is it clear, easy to get around, do you get that is sending you to Etsy, does it feel like it has a theme?, does feel busy or empty?I am not sure if I can put a link to my website here or not? I will put it here but if that is wrong please tell me and I will remove it and I can convo it to anyone willing to take a look at my site. Thanks so much!!! I will gladly send some favorites your way for your time!

I am so impressed with your website! It is VERY hard to start a website from scratch -- nothing like Etsy, I think where they guide you mostly and it's fill in the blank. Have you thought about starting a blog? I think the front page is missing something ... I am not sure what. And I would probably add some text to the contact area.

Here is my website: creativeglo.net ... take a look at it & maybe you will understand what I mean (and you could give me some tips too)

I am still building the photo gallery & the fan photo areas b/c I had to change domains in April and I basically had to rebuild my webpage (but not my blog). I pay for my website ... didn't want ads on it and someday I would like to have a shop on it instead of Etsy.

Thank You Gloria!!! I love your website as well! It is very clean and fresh! I love your photo gallery! Clicking on each photo just pops them out for a better view!
I do want to ad a blog but was too overwhelmed to do it, so I will add it soon. I think the only thing I would add to yours is can you add the Etsy Icon link to your pages so people can click on that along with Facebock, twitter etc? otherwise it's a beautiful website & beautiful photos too!! Thanks for checking mine out!! :)

Hi Tracey, It may be my computer but when I clicked on your tabs they did not work. Just thought I would mention it. I have wanted to do this too but cant find the time!! I don't even have a dedicated FB page for my jewelry. My shop has been doing great so I must be doing something right!

Tracey- I really like the front page of your website. The only "negative" thing I can say is your about page. It doesn't look as professional as the rest of your website. I don't like the little Etsy widget you have there. Since you have a page for your shop, I think that is unnecessary and makes things look a bit cluttered.

Maybe some pictures of yourself and your work area, works in progress, etc. would help. Break the paragraphs up with pics centered instead of the sides of the page.

Not saying my website is perfect by any means but this is my About page for reference of what I am trying to say. I need to add some works in progress shots, etc. to mine.

The link works on my computer and your website looks FANTASTIC! I definitely see that you have an Etsy shop. I think it's aesthetically pleasing...not cluttered and not sterile. Just right! I hope it leads to lots of sales for you. Thank you for pointing out that option.

More what I'm trying to say about your About page. It's the layout thing, not the material. :)

Here is one that has the side photo but it looks more put together to me. http://www.thescatteredartisan.com/about-us.html

Here's one using Wix that I like the layout of. http://www.emmyshairclippies.com/

And another one: http://163designcompany.com/about-our-family/

Seriously? I want to buy everything in your shop!

That aside.. I like your site! I would fix the about me page because the text is a little off... It's an adorable site. I agree with the above, for back links directing to your etsy shop, I would recommend making "dummy" blogs on blogger.

Re: I just finished a website to connect with my Etsy Shop... Opinions?

I just looked at your about page. You should have someone proof read it for you. You have some typos, grammatical errors (for example words like "charms" are not proper nouns so should not be capitalized.) Also at the bottom is says "© 2011 Be Pretty Be You" which might mislead people into believing it is not active.

What are you trying to achieve with mirroring the same items as on Etsy?
My experience is that on google at least, the Etsy listing will always come up higher than on another website. Some of the items I have on Etsy were up on my website for years, yet never made it about, maybe 4th or 5th page where the Etsy listing are sometimes even first page.

Re: I just finished a website to connect with my Etsy Shop... Opinions?

Great job! I use my own website for the same reason. Google likes it when other sites link to you. I use Indiemade. It syncs directly to my etsy shop...listings/inventory/etc. And I can include custom pages, a blog, calendar, etc etc etc....I love it!

http://lindenhill.indiemade.com

(I should also add....I didn't use Etsy until recently. I've been watching google analytics stats since joining Etsy...and traffic back and forth between the two sites has been gradually rising...and with that...I'm rising in google rankings. I did my "own" thing for a long time without being in a marketplace and nothing has raised my veiws like opeing an etsy shop...still waiting on that first etsy sale!)

Re: I just finished a website to connect with my Etsy Shop... Opinions?

Let me just say thank you so much for taking time for all your feedback!!! I really appreciate all of it! Setting up the website was overwhelming and I definitely have many days ahead of tweaking!!
*Mary - Your right your shop is doing amazing congrats!! ;)
*Julie - Thank you about my front page & yes I agree about my etsy widget I am trying it out because as people read about me maybe something will catch their eye ;) I will definitely think about adding some personal photos!!
*NeatoKeen - Thank You!!!! :))
* Ashley - Thank You!! Lol I guess you shouldn't proof read, copy and paste at midnight!! it definitely was a little off. Maybe you can pm me on what a "dummy" bog is if you have time?
*Richard- yes it definitely needed proof reading! Thank you! I set the website up to coexist with Etsy to help my SEO. I have read a few articles that recommend having a website to go along with an Etsy shop to help with getting traffic to your shop. An item in the website links right to my Etsy shop.
*Lauren - Thank You!! :)

Again Thank You everyone!! :))
