Re: How to take the perfect Product Shot

Awesome link, polarstones. Thanks! Your photos came out fabulous. Who would've thought the tin foil would turn out so white, and not silver!

Are you using a SLR or point and shoot? What kind? Do you do your own camera settings? I am wondering if you can share some of the techie details about lens, ISO, f stop, ect...

Just yesterday I finally spent a few hours learning my manual settings, and was surprised at the noted improvement of the white balance. I still have a long way to go and am very curious about the most common settings.

Thanks for the suggestion! Your photos turned out great! I, however, am really struggling with the little amount of daylight left this time of year, and so have to figure out another option!

Re: How to take the perfect Product Shot

@celia, I do have a digital SLR, We use a shutter priority mode (S) which lenghtens the exposure time. Then used the timer for the photo so that it was completely still when taking photos. Then you take about a million photos and use the best one LOL

@Sara, it is dar here too by 5pm so I really have to take advantage of moments when I can (and when my 3 kids let me) to take pics. That is why I have only gotten through a few products in my shop.

Re: How to take the perfect Product Shot

awesome! I made my first photo soft box with this tutorial
http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html

, out of a cardboard box, tissue paper and poster board - then I bought a $25 fabric one on ebay but the box will do the same job - here's a photo I took with this set up:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/113748257/lobster-joy-nautical-christmas-card-set

I use Aperture priority mode (A) so I have greater control over the depth of field, I have a cannon Rebel Ti, no tripod. I take my photos early in the morning when there's usually a lot of bright sunlight outside. After 9 AM or so it gets really cloudy and then dark at 4!

Thanks for sharing the aluminum foil method, it's interesting, and seems even better for low light since it's so reflective

Re: How to take the perfect Product Shot

I read the blog as well. I use a lightbox and this has helped a lot in most of my photo's. I feel that it's not professional enough so I'm looking to re-do them again. sighs.

Re: How to take the perfect Product Shot

Thank you. I'm going to have to invest in some tracing paper and give this a try. The lighting in my house is so strange, so hopefully this works better than what I'm doing now.
