How to sell items on Facebook?

Alright, so I just got a facebook page for my Etsy store today. I never thought it would be something that would help my store out, but I keep ready more and more stories about people selling items through facebook. I asked this question in another thread, and a few people replied asking the same question. I figured creating a thread specifically for selling on facebook would get better feedback. I just wanted to open up general discussion on your experiences with selling on facebook.

I think having a Facebook page can be really helpful for keeping people updated about your shop. You can post about sales you are having, new items, etc. So far it has increased my sales a little, although I'm sure I could be doing more to get more fans that aren't people I already know.
I think it would help if I put the web address to my page on my business cards :)

Hi there, I have been using my FB page as a link back to my Etsy store along with two other sites. I try to post new links to FB and Twitter each day usually three so it doesn't come across as spammy. There is also a place there to add "My Etsy" app to your page.

When I check my stats here on Etsy there is about 1/4-1/3 of my new traffic comes from those venues linking back to my site. It takes time to do the social networking thing and I find it tiring but I think it is worth the effort. I wish I could offer info about selling directly from FB; the closest info I can provide is that if someone starts a page and allows others to post links to items in their shops on that page you create yet another back link (in addition to your own page) to your shop and increase your search ranking.

Also, your friends can share your listings giving you yet more exposure. I'd love to hear about others' experiences!

Thanks so much guys! I added the facebook app, but did'nt know about the landing pages, so I am setting that up now :) Luckily I waited in business cards, so I'll make sure my fb link is on them.

My Facebook page has actually brought in about 175 new fans. I try different things to keep people interested. I post sales, contests (which I throw every random once-in-a-while), photos of new items, great quotes, and a few short personal stories so it's a fun place to visit.

I also have a personal FB page which I use for contact with friends but also use it to point people to my Wild Woman Beads page whenever I have something going on there.

Finally, I have a website where I blog occasionally, and when I do, I add a link to my blog on my Wild Woman Beads FB page.

Once you get the hang of it, it's fun and doesn't take a huge amount of time to keep up, but it does draw people in and keep them interested. Definitely recommend that you browse other FB business pages to see which you like, why you like them, and add some of those elements to your own FB page.

Oh! I also forgot. I also use my FB page to promote other Etsy artists whose work I especially love and to promote my treasuries and other people's T's as well. This is what I call "good Etsy karma," meaning that when we all share each other's work, we all benefit. Facebook is a great way to do this!

I agree with sharing other peoples work! I honestly think that's one of the best parts about creating social media profiles. I doubt my "fans" just want to see fearthers blasted everywhere, but I do think they like my style. Therefore, they will all enjoy my favorite Etsy items as well, hopefully.

Valerie, your not off topic! Any advice is helpful, and ordering business cards is on my agenda for the day.

I had some thouble figuring out the landing page last night (I was hald asleep) So i'm giving it another go. I'll post it when I finish too see if it actually works.
