How to make your Facebook worth it?

I just opened my Facebook account yesterday, and started a small ad campaign, but I am curious, how do you all manage to get people to Like your page? I don't want to link it from my shop, because encouraging people to leave your shop to go to a different site seems backwards, but I'm not sure what else to do. Suggestions?

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

You can promote your page on multiple teams and it really does get the word around. The etsy community is good at reciprocating "likes". I am on a team called etsians of facebook and they have a continuous thread for facebook. Most of the other teams do as well.

You could also put it on your invoice to recieve updated promotions or in your profile as well.

I was your first "like"!

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

I liked you too! But I didn't see any previous likes? Amanda & Mafalda...are you sure you liked her page as yourself (meaning you PERSONAL Facebook...NOT your fan page) ... otherwise, it will not show up as a 'like'. Amanda (Martin), I use my Facebook fan page to announce special sales (like Facebook only) or if I'm doing a local craft fair---that kind of thing. I don't really know how much it helps re: sales ... but it has helped me "some". GOOD LUCK!

I'm not sure how FB influences sales at all. Can anyone give me some advice on how to make it work?

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

I invited all of my facebook friends to like my business page. I also joined the Etsians of Facebook team, which is great for getting the word out about your page. There are other teams who share facebook pages too. I also share my page posts from my personal account for those who have't liked it yet. I keep my posting to 1 or 2 a day, usually when I'm listing a new item or have something to share, such as the USPS holiday mailing schedule. I try not to inundate people with a bunch of posts. That's just irritating and spammy and most people will block you from their feed.

When you link your facebook page to your Etsy shop and someone clicks 'Like", it doesn't take them off your shop or the Etsy site. It likes your facebook page in the background. The benefit is that when you post on your facebook page it will show up in the news feed for that person.

One of my 4 sales came directly from a facebook friend seeing my page information and visiting my Etsy shop. It's a great place to share information with people, not just sell your stuff. If you can build value with your following, they will be more likely to listen to you and want to purchase from you.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

GotMilkGlass ... I just liked you too!! I sometimes think the fan page is a great tool. Other times (like DAYS can go by) and I feel as though I'm talking to myself!! I try to include helpful links, not ONLY my jewelry because I think people get tired of it...and it actually becomes spammy. SO I include links, I try to start up conversations...but like I said, there are times I feel like I'm talking to myself!! (Not very different from 'real life', lol.) I hope it helps you!!

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

I have been using my Etsy shop (Redabe) Facebook page to "Like" other Etsy shops. Is this okay or should i be using my personal Facebook page? Little confused.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

You're actually supposed to use your 'personal' page...otherwise, it doesn't count for that shop.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

Hey Judy - I know the feeling - talking to yourself. But then every once in a while I get more response than expected from something and I know it is working.
I also shared a treasury on my personal page and ended up introducing a friend to Etsy and she made some purchases from some shops. I think you just need to use it as one of many tools! Off to post my upcoming show now...

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

I totally agree, Angela!! 'One of many tools'!! THAT's why I spend so much time here on Etsy (on the computer) & in my studio creating new items. If it's not Etsy, it's Facebook. If it's not Facebook, it's Twitter or my blog. And don't forget about Teams & Treasuries!! YIKES--sometimes my husband has to drag me away!! :)

HI, i invited all my FB friends, then offered a free pair of earrings when i hit 50. now i am giving a free item from my shop when i hit 150. Seems to help. I try to add a new picture, quote etc everyday. Then i share it from my personal FB every time i post something.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

Jennifer....my only question is: By accumulating all of those "likes" (which is great) but what did it mean in terms of actual SALES? Anything? That's what I wonder re: Facebook 'likes'.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

On the left column of your Face Book business page is an 'insight' button. Click on it and it takes you to a report on how you are reaching people. Just hover the cursor over the question mark for explanations of such things as 'people talking about you.' You can also find out paid (ads) and unpaid (likes/friends) reaches.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

Watch out for paying for FB ads. My sister did it for her Etsy FB page and even though she set the max to 5 cents she still got billed for over $100. FB charges you for not only the initial fee but for every "like" or "click" you get. Totally not worth it - hook up with the Etsian FB teams instead.

Re: How to make your Facebook worth it?

I've found out so much from this and other posts! I wish I read a lot of it before I set up my FB (fan) page today!

I've seen that you have you etsy link on the side ... I gotta do that! Guess I need to dig in! I do hate not being able to 'communicate' like a normal page!
