How to get the second sale

Hi!

I had my first sale a few months ago which I was so happy about :) But now I have been working working working to get my second. It doesn't seem to be coming. I have changed my shop a few times and updated all my titles and tags as well as promoting on facebook, twitter, pinterest and wanelo.

Can anyone help or offer any advice :) Would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, I think your shop looks great. Seems like you have covered SEO, your pics are lovely and your prices reasonable. Have you considered attending shows to promote your store? Or other off etsy advertising?

Your paintings are gorgeous, and perfect for summer, so I hope your business takes off. I can't offer much in the way of advice since I am in exactly the same boat as you, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone. Are you getting a lot of views? Sometimes it's helpful to narrow down whether people just aren't finding your shop or whether they look around and aren't buying since those are two very different problems. If the former is true, work on your tags and titles (though they look pretty good to me), if it's the latter then pay attention to what people search for to find you and play more with those themes. Thanks for your advice, no I haven't thought of shows. Do you mean like markets? What kind of shows? I am using Pinterest, Facebook, twitter and Wanelo for promotion. Will try some more sites, thanks for your help :)

Your paintings are beautiful! You might want to try signing up for Google Adwords and Facebook Ads. Don't add money right away and they'll generally give you $100 or so credit to get started. It might help bring in people who otherwise wouldn't be searching on Etsy for art.

Ellie I love your shop and I'm sure the second sale is around the corner. I agree with Elise about promoting off Etsy. I know original art is a large field on Etsy---I started off with paintings---perhaps you could go to gallery shows to spread the word. I know there is a whole video from the Etsy Success Symposium on getting into shows of that sort (I think it's day 2).

PS - I don't think your twitter account is properly setup on your shop page. I tried to follow you, but nothing happened when I clicked the button :)

Have you tried Brisbane shows? Check out this blog, she's in your area, and frequently talks about Brisbane area craft shows, fairs, etc.

I think your art is beautiful. In my experience Etsy is not really the venue for Original art. Most of my sales come from my functional art glass pieces . i have sold several originals ,but it is slow. i thik you may want to try fine art sites. I sell prints on fineartamerica.com

Hi Ellie!

I think your work is amazing! I will tell you, when I buy art on Etsy I look for listings that include a picture of it displayed in a space. It helps me to imagine it in my home and to be sure I will be happy with the purchase. I don't think I've ever bought a print or piece of art that didn't include this.

I have to say yes your work is beautiful! But indeed with the thousands of shops here on etsy it is hard to get customers. I have tried and tried... almost wanting to give up BUT i sell lots here in town, and city where i live. So ETSY is fun and I did start fine art at fineartamerica.com i believe is the general website.... here is my gallery.

It's all very random. It's hard to get used to that. Some days I'm so busy I'm not sure I can handle it, and others I can hear the crickets chirping!! I've learned to use those days to market, catch up on paperwork, etc.

I'm in the same boat. Your shop is lovely, and your work is great. I'm sure you just need to reach more people. Maybe put up some flyers at local colleges, supermarkets, libraries, ect. That could help.

Your work is beautiful, so don't give up. My second sale came from a keyword search, so I've been very careful to pick my tags and figure out which ones have low competition using google adwords keywords tool
