How to get over slumps

So this year has been horrible. I've been promoting my business like crazy and this year every month i've been down at least 70% to 90% from last years sales and revenue numbers. My views and favorites are up however. I've added new things to my shop but no bites. I work with my tags, titles, and seo and I see improvement. I am wondering what to do now.

Have any of you experienced sellers had huge slumps and what are things that you have done to over come them?

Re: How to get over slumps

This March is down for me also from last year. I find it gives me some time to work on projects I have not had time for and things always pick up .....eventually. It's hard though, I know, to not see daily sales. Hang in there maybe April will make up for March. There is always hope!

When things get slower, I work on new products and list them as fast as I can.

Re: How to get over slumps

Having a little bit of breathing time, helps me to focus, to get organised and create more products. I always have a million projects I want to tackle, so I'm never bored. I've found that the more you list, the more interest you create.

Re: How to get over slumps

Its very quiet with me at the moment, loads of views and faves but no sales. it was exactly the same last year.
I am spending this time knitting different things to list in my shop, so that hopefully making it more interesting.

If what you were doing in the past is not working well any more, it is time for changes.
You might consider introducing a new product line and finding new ways of marketing/promoting.

Re: How to get over slumps

This has been a slow period for me but I attribute much of it to having to do more work at my school, which leaves less energy for my Etsy work : (
This, too, will pass, however!

Re: How to get over slumps

I've only been here for one month, so i don't know any better. But I'm pretty disappointed so far. So is this a temporary thing or am I on a sinking ship?

Re: How to get over slumps

Saldi, you have the same title for all of your items. This won't do you any favours in Etsy search. Variety is the key to getting found in lots of different searches. You could try identifying colours, type of bird, and the type of medium used in your titles to mix it up a bit.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to get over slumps

Slumps are so difficult. For me, they are a time to not only adjust tags and titles, but to really examine current trends and expand on the products in my store that always seem to sell. Good luck! I am sure it's temporary!

Re: How to get over slumps

Saldi, if you just started a month ago you cannot possible have a slump yet.
For that you need to have regular sales first.
And those don't come automatically. Becoming a successful seller on Etsy involves not only talent but also a lot of hard work and dedication.
Etsy is only a selling platform. They don't sell our products for us. That is our work!

Hé, en je hebt al 4 dingen verkocht in je eerste maand. Dat is boven gemiddeld. Gefeliciteerd!

Re: How to get over slumps

Amanda, I've been feeling the same.
Things were going really great in my shop, I thought I'd turned a corner, but now, I swear the lights have been turned off in and the crickets have made themselves at home.

I've been working on redoing my photos, reworking tags, titles and descriptions, but nothing seems to be working.
I'm working on new products, but it is hard to keep buying supplies, when there is no money coming in.
Honestly, I feel like I've hit a brick wall and I'm not sure where to turn.

(So sorry, that I don't have any words of wisdom. I guess we just have to keep plugging away.)

Re: How to get over slumps

There are ups and downs. My March has been the slowest month out of the year thus far. But it is our tourist season so my weekly street fair has helped out. I have been creating new items and trying to do other goals I have set for 2014. A big one is getting my website and blog where I want it to be.

I have noticed a slump at this time of year and I always figure it is tax season here in the states and people are either waiting for a refund or scrambling to pay their share.

Best of luck:)

Re: How to get over slumps

I know exactly what you mean Carrie. After an amazing end of last year, its been really discouraging.

I know I am pretty gun shy now about listing. Only because buying supplies for more things just seems silly. I don't know anymore. I am trying to plug away but its getting defeating.
