How to Promote

Hi I'm Christina! I recently opened my first Etsy shop and i see the promote section. So I signed up and listed $5 a day. I haven't been charged yet so I dont know how it works or if it is working. The only activity is "impressions". How do you get your shop/items to be more visible? Any tips are appreciated!

Re: How to Promote

I don't believe in promotion, hate to say it.

I've had much more success just getting critiques, and monitoring my stats to see what keywords are bringing in searchers. And selling what people are searching for.

Re: How to Promote

Before you spend money for promotion on Etsy I would really recommend you join several teams - including a treasury making team so that your items get included in other people's treasuries. Work on social media outside of Etsy such as Pinterest, Twitter, and StumbleUpon. It really can take a long time for your sales to start but patience and persistence will help keep you going. And remember that January will probably be very slow because everyone is shopped out after Christmas. Good luck

Re: How to Promote

This is good feedback. I also tried the promote setting and haven't gotten much from it! Thanks!

Re: How to Promote

Here is Etsy's Help file on Promoted Listings: https://www.etsy.com/help/article/5592
In the future you don't want to start spending money on something if you don't even know how it works. That will not help your business.
Most sellers find that Promoted Listings are a waste of money.
There are many ways to promote your shop for free, mainly through networking and using social media.

Wishing you many sales!

Re: How to Promote

Since you joined this team, you are able to promote your items in the various links that you feel will best advertise your products. Therefore, you should join other teams that are appropriate for your products. Advertising in the teams is great exposure.
Since Etsy changed its advertising methods, my sales - which have never been great - are up one month, down another & sometimes all over the place.
Creating treasuries & notifying the people whose products you treasured is a great way to make other vendors aware of your shop. Once they know that you are helping to advertise their product in your treasury, many will reciprocate & use one of your products in their treasury - giving you exposure.
I don't have a facebook page, I don't tweet (I am not a bird!) and there are just too many new social media programs to keep up with - there are only 24 hours in a day which hasn't changed since the beginning of time, which begs the question - if you work for a living, how much time do you have for all the social media without getting fired for not doing the job you were hired to do?
Good Luck & Happy Sales

Re: How to Promote

@Linda, this is a non-promotional team, so while promoting might be allowed in promo teams, it is not allowed in this team.

I find it best to promote off of Etsy. I have a FB, Twitter, Instagram, and Pintrest. However, I use Instagram and PIntrest the most. I use Twitter and FB primarily when I have new products or am going to be somewhere in person. I use my instagram the most followed by Pintrest. I suggest finding one or two social media outlets and using them and building up your fan base with them.

Outside of that, I no longer pay for advertising, especially on Etsy. They never panned out well for me.

Re: How to Promote

I am currently using Promotional Ads...I am running an experiment to see if they are worth it (I am a former science teacher so I love experiments). I have a limit of $1 a day ($5 is too high in my opinion for most of us). My bid is a nickel. I have spent $18.81 in the last 3 months and have $174.00 in sales. I don't know if the sales would have happened anyway, there is no way of telling this. I do notice my views are higher, my sales are higher than this time last year. If running PA, has helped it has been pretty cheap advertising. I plant to run them through the end of March as those are my lowest times of the year.

Re: How to Promote

Hi Christinas,
I checked out your shop. You have 36 sales in less than a month. That's great!
As for promoted ads, I think your only charged if someone actually clicks on your ad. I am still experimenting with them but so far not seeing that they help much with sales. I opened a instagram account about 2 months ago and have been doing great with it. Facebook not so much.
Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

Re: How to Promote

Hi Sandy, You can check to see how many sales are coming from PA.
Where it shows what you spent for the month on PA it will also show sale from PA.

Re: How to Promote

Thanks for all the advice. I do have an Instagram which is where the majority of my sales are coming from. I have been trying to use Pinterest but don't know how to capture followers or people liking my posts. A lot to learn!!!!!
