How to Donate Money to a Cause

Hi everyone, I need some tips. I'd like to donate some of my shop proceeds to the tornado relief in IL (where I live). I was hoping to create an item that is easy to make, then have 50% or so of the proceeds go towards the relief efforts. Is there anything special I need to do when setting up a listing like this? I know people have done this before for Hurricane Katrina and similar disasters. If you have experience and can help me, please comment! Thanks!

Re: How to Donate Money to a Cause

I would suggest that you simply make a donation to whatever charity you like and not tie it to any specific listing.

For example all the proceeds from the sale of my patterns go to various charities but I don't specifically mention any charity in the listings nor do I advertize the fact (other than one small mention at the bottom of the listing).

If you are going to donate from a specific listing and mention the charity in the listing, you will need to follow the rules for charity giving

including having permission from that charity to use their name in your listing(s).

You might be much better off simply to make a donation directly to the Red Cross or whatever charity you choose.

Thanks for the tips, crochetgal! I did find that post on Etsy with the rules, so that helped answer a few of my questions as well.
