@Marie: That seems like the key to me... Facebook is social media. Be social!
Think about your own personal account and the pages that you've chosen to "like". What does it take to make you engage with those pages and their status updates?
You don't want fans to just see your posts, you want them to engage with it. Why? Cumulatively, they know a lot more people than you. Think viral. When your fans "like" your page update, their friends will see it; when their friends see it and like it, their friends will see it (3 connections deep already). Now you're bringing in a whole new audience.
Look back through your page statistics. You can see what has been most effective as far as reach, user engagement, etc. What is the most popular? Now why do you think it's the most popular? What's the message, type of post, sentiment, product, etc.? Facebook actually provides decent analytic tools as far as that is concerned.
Make up fun little stories about something... be whimsical (admittedly, I'm not good at this). Something I could use when going on a photo trip would be something like, "I asked the man at a Valero in San Marcos which way Canyon Lake was and he told me to go straight and then turn left after I pass the dead skunk.... Here goes nothin'!"
Have fun with it!
