How much (many) and how often should I post new listings?

I have new things to add to my shop. I have only had a few sales since I opened my shop a few months ago (I use to only buy on Etsy) and they are spastic. People have been telling me what I need to do to gain views, hearts, and sales, so I have slowly started to do all the suggestions and I finally started to noticed way more views and hearts every day. And finally this past week I made another sale.

One thing I have been told and have read about is to keep posting new items because we all know every time you post something new it puts you at the top of the list so to speak.

My question is how many items at a time and how often should I post new items?

I have a good bunch right now that I am working on taking photos of and will soon go up. I posted 2 listings today. But eventually I may run out of items to post and while I find it fun to "shop" for things to put in my shop I don't want to keep ordering/buying new items if nothing ever gets sold in the first place so I wont have new items after a while.

What should I do and how many and how often should I list?

I tend to post one a day, sometimes two, but I'm not a HUGE producer so I don't usually have a ton of items to list. I'll keep building up piles of drafted listings and list them one a day until I run out (and hopefully I'll have more listings to draft by that time). I post links to my new listings on facebook, and I don't want to irritate my "fans" by posting too often so if I only list one item a day I don't feel the need to be plugging my items multiple times per day. Does that make sense? (golly it's late, no wonder my own words don't make sense to me!).

But it varies for everyone. If you feel listing many things at once works for you, then by all means do so. But if you feel listing just a few a day works better, follow that route. It's your shop so it's ultimately up to you to decide!

I understand why people might want to spread out listing new items, especially if each item is different and cannot be duplicated. Keep in mind though, if it's not listed, it can't sell. You never know which item will bring someone into your shop.

It's also different for every shop. I don't really worry about listing new items constantly (daily) because I can renew almost all of my items when they sell. So, if I can get sales, I am also getting to simultaneously post an item.

I make unique items, so I can't renew if they get sold. I have full time job, so I can only make a few bags or purses a week. That means a few listings a week as well. But even if I did have a lot of items to list, I would only list one item per day. Better than listing 5 or 10 a day and than nothing for a week.

It's not just any ping you might get from a new listing. It's also about building up your inventory. The more listings, the more likely it is that you will be found.

I think its better to post one or two items per day than all at once..
That way you get more attention from costumers since your item appears higer in search, and also get a chance that customer who liked your item will also enter the shop.

i think that for "bigger" shops or shops who has a steady customer flow its not as critical as for small shops who try to get attention from buyers.

I've found that if I list one or two new items each day then I keep bringing in the traffic.

But a lot will also depend on the amount of marketing that you do as well.

So far, I agree with the consensus here. Posting a few items each day will guarantee atleast a few views per day. If you list them all at once at a slow time in the day, you could be losing view/sale opportunities. So far I've found, for me, new listings get more views in the morning & evening times. For a month now I've been listing 2-3 items/day. It's helped to significantly increase my views and I've averaged a sale/day (which is pretty good for me this time of year.)

Seems to me that it is probably more about having more inventory. When you post a new product, the initial views while it is briefly on the bottom of the front page are probably very few. Also, with Etsy's SEO changing, you never know whether or not it will help an item to show up in the categories closer to the top of the search or not.

Therefore, my opinion is to post new items as soon as you have them ready and get the inventory up as soon as you can so that your customer has more options. More customer options seem to result in more shop sales.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll stick to my 1-2 items a day or every other day. Or whenever I have time if I'm really busy for the day.

I am new to Etsy and no expert on the topic but as per what I have read and discussed on other forums, a new seller should first and foremost concentrate on building an inventory. Think about the customers who are coming to your shop currently, they will see just 16 items and may want more options to make a selection so you are losing a sale here.

Your shop is pretty and your items are lovely, but with so many vintage shops filled with hundreds of items, your items may get lost in the crowd.

When I opened my shop, I added all the inventory I had in a week's time (60-65 items). Having built a good enough inventory, now I plan to add 1-2 items in a day. But marketing is equally important!
