How long did it take for you to make your first sale?

My sister and I just opened up shop about two weeks ago. We have our SEO done, hopefully well. We have various social media accounts set up to increase traffic. Our views are average, although we have nothing to compare them to. My question is, how long does it take to make that first sale? Are we missing anything? Are there other steps to take to improve visibility and convert views into sales?

The items in your shop are really nice! I would recommend photographing them on a white surface. I think that will help you gain some more visibility on etsy.

Re: How long did it take for you to make your first sale?

It took about two-and-a-half months before I got my first sale on Etsy

"Converting views into sales" is a bad way to look at things because you don't care how many people look at your items; you only care how many people buy. If you market for views you'll get views. If you market for sales you'll get sales.

BTW: What is a "Canarie?" I looked in the dictionary and online and could not find it, except a place by that name.

Well, the meaning of Canarie is on our about page. It is named after the canary songbird. We changed it to canarie because we didn't want it to be completely defined by that. It is to represent an indefinite mystical quality.

I didn't really meant "converting views into sales", but after all views and sales are directly correlated. If you are not getting any views, you are definitely not getting any sales. Right now, we are getting a lot of traffic but not a sale yet.

So that's our current predicament. We wanted to know how other Etsy sellers made their first sale and if any, the steps taken to reach that first sale.

"but after all views and sales are directly correlated. If you are not getting any views, you are definitely not getting any sales. Right now, we are getting a lot of traffic but not a sale yet. "

You now have my point; If you market the wrong way you'll have views but no sales.

I had 1 sale in the first 80 days of my shop. I had 100 sales in last 40 days. When I stopped looking for views and asked "What do I have to do to make a sale today?" I started selling. You may think the two the same way but the mind set is entirely different; the difference between saying "I am going to finish a race" and saying "I am going to win it."

The other thing you have to do is make your shop authentically yours. I used be in SEO teams and people told me that I couldn't make sale with the shop section names I have. And I said "watch me."

I took a good look at your shop. My opinion:
You have to fix the photos and let your items speak for themselves and then have descriptions that work with them. Don't SAY something is "dainty" or "elegant". Show it.

This feels like a hard sell to me:
"This sparkly bracelet is right out of a 90s teenage dream! Relive your 90s with this one."

Lastly you have to stop giving people reason NOT to buy from you:
"Please measure around your wrist in centimeters and list it on the checkout page. "

In the US probably 75% of households don't have a metric tape and they certainly don't know how to convert. Luxury items = impulse buy = easy to loose the sale.

Hi Richard,

I think I get what you mean. Haven't really seen things from your point of view before. I always equated more views to more sales.
We will be working on our photos and we really appreciate the valuable advice.
You have a great shop by the way!

Re: How long did it take for you to make your first sale?

I had my first sale after 1 year. I changed couple times photos, titles, tags, descriptions.
I spent to much time on Etsy shop without any success.
Because of that I am thinking about closing my shop.
