I love all kinds of crafts. I am making jewelry right now, but have acquired a large number of miscellaneous items through the years-yarn, doll shoes, doll clothes, Christmas ornaments, and, of course, beads, hundreds of beads! One of my sons was kind enough to put extra shelves in my spare bedroom's closet (from ceiling to floor) and in my studio/office's closet, as well. I store all my items there in plastic boxes with labels so I know what is stored in each box. I use divided boxes for the smaller, more delicate beads, and mason jars with leads for the larger Lucite beads.
However, I am having some trouble finding the small pieces of jewelry I have made (such as earrings, etc.). Each piece is in a separate gift box, but I have to open many boxes to get to the one I want. Does anybody use a number system to identify their pieces?
For the necklaces I cut a large piece of double quilted fabric and sew a ribbon at intervals at both ends width wise. On one end I tie the clasp end of the necklace and on the other I tie the middle of the necklace. Then it is very easy to find what I want by rolling one end of the fabric out and the other in. That way I don't ever need to roll the whole thing open, unless I want to show all my necklaces at once to a prospective buyer. However, my "roll" is very rustic. It was a spare-of-the-moment thing. I really need to work on it to make it prettier.
