I would love to know too...

I'm also not sure how to mark an item as sold if I do not sell through pay pal...

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

I usually write on the title RESERVED FOR ....
And down on the description please do not buy unless you are such and such. I hope it helps.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

It's the same as setting up any item in your shop, just "add new". Exceptt as Myriam said, you put "RESERVED for {name}" or something in the title. I would also include a photo that simply says "RESERVED LISTING" instead of a photo of the product, so people don't get confused.

Then you write who it's for in the description.

If someone else tries to buy it, you can refund their order and explain its a reserved listing..but I doubt that would happen.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

Ok, thanks!

It is a local friend and I want to list it to get some feedback. She just wants to pay me in cash. Is there a way to do that?

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

she may be able to do it though Other if you have it available. That's open for checks and other forms of payment I believe.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

Yes, Chantal is right. Go to your account. Under shop settings click on shipping and payments. Go to payment methods select other and save. At the checkout tell her to select other as a form of payment and that's it. Good luck :)

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

Yep to the above. If she doesn't check out through Paypal she cannot leave feedback. Another note: you can't just set up one item for "other" type of payment, you have to temporarily set up your whole shop to accept Other.

Here's a custom listing I did recently. Hey, this is weird...up until a couple of days ago, the first photo was the one which says "Custom Order." That item had already been sold, but now when I look at it, the photos are re-arranged (not by me). So, heads up...I saw this reported elsewhere in the forums so yikes; I'm going to check my other listings for photo-rearrangement.
Anyway:

Also if you have a buyer who purchases but not through Paypal... in a case like this... i.e. you sell the item locally instead, you have to make the item inactive.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

IF you don't want the public to see what the item is actually you can make a avi to represent "reserve" listing. Then simply apply that avi for all special orders.

Often it helps and gives the reserve 'customer' time to cart and pay, before another person jumps in to purchase. I've known that to happen, someone will see a reserve listing and purchase it even if its not intended for them.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

rainbeauxcraft, I had someone paying me with check. She was able to leave feedback. Did they change this?

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

As long as the friend has an account here, she can participate in the feedback.

Although it would be nice if we could check out as a guest.

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

If you have "other" listed as a payment option they will be able to leave feedback so long as they check out via Etsy. In my first post I ran out of edit time so I had to edit this in the post immediately following.

I was attempting (clumsily) to answer the question about a friend wanting to buy and participate in feedback and how to make the item show as sold... in the same post. Just in the case of someone buying the item locally, if they do not use Etsy, they cannot leave feedback and you would have to make the item Inactive. There is no way to mark it Sold if it doesn't sold here, so in that case you just inactivate the listing.

Hope that's clearer!

Re: How do I set up a reserve listing?

@rainbeauxcraft - Yes it is clear! I was confused by the Paypal instead of Etsy confusion, but I saw it right away. Your info was actually super helpful. Thanks!
