How can you tell where a sale came from?

I read post and people saying if wanalo or pintrest have led to a sale. Is this just from process of elimination? You can see what was viewed and you know if it has sold or not? Sorry if this is a dumb question - Jaclyn

I've wondered this too. Maybe the buyer tells them?

Re: How can you tell where a sale came from?

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. I just checked my Shop Stats page and looked at my sold orders. I don't see a way to tell exactly how that person found me. I'm sure you know that your Stats page will tell you where your traffic is coming from (Etsy, direct traffic, Facebook, etc), so perhaps those shop owners see that their traffic increases from XYZ source and then their sales go up. It's reasonable to assume that the first thing led to the second. :)

If anybody has a more detailed answer, I'm all ears.

Oh! And, you could probably simply ask your buyer where they heard about you or how they found your listing. You could probably just add the question to your "Message to Buyers" section, which is added to all your receipt pages and the email notifications Etsy sends out. You'll find that on the first page of the "Info and Appearance" section under "Shop Settings."

Here's a link to a thread that talks about how buyers find you.

Re: How can you tell where a sale came from?

Definitely an interesting question! Thanks for the link! On my shop email newsletter, I have 'how did you find me' as an optional question, so I know how my shop is found in that way..sorry its not much help for finding out about buyers.

You can usually tell where a sale came from from Google Analytics...
