How can I give someone a gift certificate to use in my store?

If I want to give someone a gift certificate to use in my store, how can I do that? I only find options in the coupon codes for percentage reduction or shipping elimination. What if I want to give someone a whole dollar amount to use throughout the store, wherever they choose. It would not be a gift certificate they purchase, however a gift from me. Does anyone know how to do this?

The only thing that I can think to do is have them tell you what item they want and then change the price to take off the gift certificate amount and list it as a reserved listing for them specifically.

I would love to do this too but also do not know of an easy way to give a set $ amount off on an order.

That was all I could come up with too, Andrea. I read somewhere, though, that you could create one with PayPal. I'm completely confused. I think it would be great if we could create a dollar amount that the customer could redeem in addition to the percentage discount.

This is what I found, but I am still confused of how to apply the gift certificate when someone wants to actually use it in my shop. can anyone please explain how it works? once someone buys a gift certificate from my shop, let's say $50, and wants to use it for buying an item less than $50 dollars, what would be the process? what coupon code I need to provide when the coupons can only be for percentage reduction? and what if they want to buy an item that coast more than $50? how do I send a revised PayPal invoice for the difference ??
