How Can I Improve My Shop?

I have been here a while, I have 737 sales, 100% positive feedback.

I still though feel my shop could do with a critique, because I am only on the front page maybe twice a year ( i get an email from craftcult or somewhere when i am on ) I do get featured at least daily in treasuries though.

I feel a little like i can;'t really tell how to improve it because i look at my shop SOOOOOOOOO much!

I am at the point where I would really like greater exposure and would like to get my shop to a standard that it is suitable to be in some kind of Etsy Blog post, or QYDJ, and ofcourse the holy grail The Featured Seller. How do i get to that standard?

How can i a fairly established seller improve my shop so that i am more "visible"?

Thanks in advance

Re: How Can I Improve My Shop?

I don't have 700 sales, and I've never been on the front page, but I did notice a few things that could be improved, or at least thought about:

The first thing I noticed when I looked at your shop was how sparse and white it was, until I scrolled down and discovered that you sell beautiful, lush artwork!

Part of that is that your banner is kinda... blah... compared to what you sell, and part of it is that your featured listings are for sets, without showing any of your art.

The next thing I noticed is that your shop announcement could be doing more to get google views by dropping some keywords in the first paragraph, and to be honest, if I was a potential buyer, if the fist thing I read in your shop announcement was a customer review, I might be a little bit put off. Maybe put it a little lower down?

As far as being a featured seller or that sort of thing, I would suggest looking at what other featured shops selling similar items do for photography, as that is often the thing that sets those shops apart from the rest of us. How do they stage their shots? Are they up against a wall? Framed? Accompanied by props? Try experimenting with different ways of presenting your art. Your photos are good, but are they featured seller or Etsy finds good?

I hope you find this somewhat helpful, and I wish you even more success than you've already found!

Hi Kathy (the best name ever!),

Me too, as Beth, never been on the front page, and don't have 737 sales!
You definitely deserve the success you already have - you're very talented artist! But I honestly don't see anything wrong with your shop...
More of good luck!

Re: How Can I Improve My Shop?

thanks so much Beth!

you are rightabout the featured listings. i was kind of bothered by it myself but left them there just so people actually see them

But have deleted them now, because they take up too much room.

i have noticed a lot of people going bannerless, maybe i should try that for a bit, i dont know

Got rid of the feedback review too

I am planning to get some frames and do a whole heap of shots with my prints framed, thats next on my list

thanks so much for the advice!

Re: How Can I Improve My Shop?

For more visibility on Google:
If you have researched and chosen your keywords wisely, the next step is to build backlinks for your shop.

Google indexes (think, "sorts and files") web pages based on the keywords and other text content. Most keywords have many other web sites competing for high rankings and lots of visitors/views.

Google sorts through the competing web pages by "counting" the number and quality of backlinks. A high number of good quality backlinks move a web site or web page up higher in the search results. Higher search results, especially landing on page one, means a lot more views from people who use Google.

I do not agree with Beth - your banner is fun and colorful and certainly not cluttered with "too much."

We all have different tastes in design. Just be yourself.

Theresa

WOW so many sales for such a short time! 477 sales in about 7 months! Congratulations!

The only thing that stuck out to me as far as improving would be your photography. I would try to photograph in natural light- (avoid the flash look), and photgraph on neutral background- never on what appears to be a floor or bed. Maybe find a wood background and photograph it near a window or outside (indirect diffused light), like on a bright but cloudy day.
