Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

So many times I'm asked how can a shop get more sales.

Besides doing the standard marketing, I've always found that it really helps to step back every now and then and take a good look at the tags on each item.

Over the past weekend, I've been doing just that within my own shop and was amazed to see what I found. Tags that didn't make any sense, tags that were incorrect, tags that needed to be updated.

And even (cringe) a couple of 'Christmas in July' tags that didn't get removed!!! Yikes!

So even if you THINK your tags are good, it never hurts to take another look every now and then.

Great advice! It is so easy to just copy and list an item, but we really need to take the time to go through it and check for relevancy.

Oh no, I think a few of my items have CIJ tags! I totally forgot. Thanks for the reminder, I will get on that right after work.

It's surprising all the "tiny" things that could make a differenct.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Yeah, I found a Christmas in July tag a little while ago also, even though I'd gone through every listing when I ended my sale. I still like to check my listings every few months, even when it's not the holiday season...

I recently got a view because I spelled bracelet wrong in a tag. I wondered if not correcting it would help me be found in the over saturated jewelry market. :)

Meg from mimileather says

Definitely...you sell a lot of bracelets, so you have tags to spare, I imagine, as do I. I'm sure I seem to remember reading somewhere that having a deliberate misspelling can be a good idea, as folks, myself included, sometimes misspell things when searching.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Interesting thoughts on the miss spelling of words think will try that too.... also make sure your using different spelling ie jewellery and jewelry etc.

Great point crochetgal - I have been learning loads from Etsy Teams/Blogs/ labs etc over the last few months and have been really trying to apply all I can. When I learnt more about tags and titles I thought I had gone over all my older listings .... however I am now going though renwing expired items, which were some of the first I listed and boy are the tags and titles bad I didn't realise... so yes definatly worth going over again and again its amazing what you miss!

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Great point! It is about being fresh! What seemed fresh when we first listed an item might not be fresh today!

CIJ tags will be fresh in July - in 9 months!

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Hi,
Question - is it too early to post my ornaments? Last year, I posted them in November & did okay :) I put them up now, what do you guys think? Any thoughts are welcomed.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

EssAndEm, from what I've heard it is not too early to put up ornaments! Many people had them up in Sep. I'm trying to get mine up by the end of the week.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Thanks CrochetGal! I'm guilty as charged for having my "christmas in july" tags still on there!!!! Shame on me! Love the idea about misspelling a word in a tag...Great little tidbit to know!

EssAndEm, I would most definitely post your ornaments. I know people who are already holiday shopping!

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Tags really really important, also item descriptions if you have summer, or spring on it maybe it is time to change it. if you said perfect for summer, maybe perfect year round. I had to go back and change some of my descriptions because I had that problem.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

My best Holiday Buddy kicked my butt and I posted my ornaments this past week - of course new designs to come as well!! :D
But now I just received an email regarding the changing of categories - not too sure how to re asset this new adjustment - especially when my items are purchased mainly by women.
Any thoughts?

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

Oh, one more thing I have to ask... I had over 700 followers now I'm down to 137... and I was following many shops and now I'm down to 100; what happened? I'm sure I missed something but I'm spending time just getting back all those wonderful shops I originally was following....

Good ideas. I just wish it was easier to edit/update listings - going through one by one is a pain when you have a full shop.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

I've started posting Ornaments. I also call them Snowflakes. And in the summer I call them Suncatchers. I roll it all into one. Now I'm adding the word Holiday. Tagging never ends...

But watch out if you "Copy" to add new ones. I just found a couple of my blue snowflakes said "red and brass" for the beads. Oops. Not on the blue! I had to hustle and change a few! Also watch quantities on copying. Guilty as charged!

TO MAKE TAGGING EASIER ON COPIED LISTINGS:
I just look at what's tagged and start typing fresh in the box with commas between. I change colors, words, seasons, whatever, until I think I have them all done and in the order I want.
THEN delete all the current ones on the right with the little x's.
THEN "Add Tags" and the new ones will all go in. (or tell me to add or delete)

Hope that helps

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Keeping it "Fresh"

I read today in one of the etsy blog posts to, view shop states for the week and retag and update the items that got the least views.

I try to do this about once a month with the 5-10 items with the least views. I feel if you do it weekly you can't see if teh changes helped. So, I go for monthly. It is a good way to keep tags and descritptions fresh. I find sentences that don't make sense all the time in mine.
