Help with top level categories

I need some help making a decision, I'm not sure what direction to go in.
In the past I've had my top level categories assigned (for the most part) like this:

knitting>baby>hat
crochet>baby>hat

But now I'm thinking with the search changes that perhaps I should change my top level categories to

children>baby>hat

And more importantly, what is correct, in terms of 'The Rules'.

For better exposure on Etsy, I would spread out the listings among all the appropriate categories. All these categories would be appropriate for your items.

Thanks Mary. I wasn't sure if that's 'allowed'. But it would seem to make sense, along the lines of varying titles and tags.
