Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

I'm adding mm and cm to my listings and I'm wondering about rounding numbers up and down. For instance if I get 20.32 cm should I round it down to 20 cm, 20.25, 20.5, or should I leave it at 20.32? I'm wondering what is typical and what is easiest to read. Like when I'm using inches I don't put that something is 1 7/16 inches I say that it's just under 1 1/2 inches because that is easier to picture and understand.

Also is it okay to have 12.5-25 mm or should I change it to 12.5 mm to 2.5 cm? Or should I have 1.25-2.5 cm?

Lol, can you tell I'm confused?

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

i think you can round them up or down, i for example give lenghts for my friendship bracelets only in 0.5 cm, e.g. 15 cm 15.5cm etc.
i would not mix mm and cm

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

Hi, Barbara,

You have this in one of your listings "...handmade friendship bracelet in earthy colors
knotted lenght of bracelet = 15 cm (6,1 inches)..."

I checked a cm to inches converter on line and it calculated 15 cm = 5.9 inches.

I try to include a metric and inch ruler in at least one photo per listing. Beautiful work!!

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

This is always confusing for me too.
I have a measuring tape that shows both inches and cm, on the same side of the tape, a big help.

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

I use mm for earrings and bead sizes and cm for bracelets and necklaces. I round the cm to 1 decimal (i.e., 45.2 cm).

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

First of all, THANK YOU for adding metric measurements in your descriptions! I hate it when shop owners only use inches and I have to convert it. I hope the rest of shops will follow.

Carol gave you the best advice. Round to 1 decimal. If an item is very very small it would be easier if you use mm, but otherwise use cms.

BTW, why using 1 3/16, wouldn't be easier if you wrote 1,9"?

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

definitely round them - and like Kristina - thank you!

I say my meerkats are around 7" tall or 18cm. that is not exact, but it gives the idea. I also try to use a photo of one on my hand - your pottery pendants would be ideal held between thumb and finger, I think.

I'd also add to avoid using coins as size gauges (someone usually suggests doing that) because some of us have no idea how big foreign coins are!

Re: Help with adding metric measurements to my listings

Thank you for the advice everyone! And you're welcome for converting, but I don't know how long it will take me, it's a pretty huge undertaking!

Nifty, that is a good idea for my pottery pendants. They look larger on the neck display than they really are, and I've stated that in my listing, but a picture would be better. One more thing to add to my to do list, lol.

Kristina, people are more used to fractional inches like 1 1/2 inches, rather than 1.5, so that's why I do that.
