Help with SEO

I feel like I'm grasping at straws, like I have no idea what I'm doing and hoping for the best when it comes to adding titles, descriptions, and tags to ensure I get into searches. Would someone be willing to take the time to help me with this?

Re: Help with SEO

I would use those tags for this painting.

fairy painting, art gift, fairy canvas board, art work, handmade art, original painting, 8 x 10 in painting, girls room painting, portrait, room decor, wall hanging

If I was searching for a painting I would never use ' cute kid art '.
Good luck.

Re: Help with SEO

I spent the past weekend researching the same topic and I'm currently in the middle of updating my tags, titles and pictures. The thing that I found the most helpful was this quiz because it helped me understand what people search for and how to put keywords together.

http://www.veri.com/t/making-your-shop-more-relevant/3044

I'm also going to suggest this article: http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2012/how-to-get-found-in-search/

Something that can also give you tagging ideas is this helpful list: http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2009/seller-how-to-tag-o-rama-with-descriptive-keywords/

Another idea for brainstorming tags is to type your item in to the search bar. For example, type in "Fairy Art" and click another fairy art listing. Then from there scroll all the way down the listing and click "show item details." This will show you what the person tagged their item with. Although you shouldn't copy their tags tag for tag, it will help give you an idea.

And if you still need more advice, try searching for etsy articles on tagging or join the SEO team. Good luck and happy tagging!

Re: Help with SEO

No problem! :) I know how frusterating tagging can be, but it really does help. I had 5 to 20 views a day before I fixed my tagging. Then, he day after I fixed only half on my tagging, I got 50 views. It's not a huge number, but it's a big difference in my mind and a step in the right direction.

Re: Help with SEO

Make sure you use all 13 possible tags, I found that multiple word tags work better than just single words - for example in my shop rather than having seperate tags such as 'garland' 'cherries' 'felt', I would use 'felt flower garland' 'felt cherry garland' etc. Also try and sneak in words you have used in your tags in your title AND in the first line of your description.

Re: Help with SEO

Kaylyn - I always tag how I would search for an item. Put yourself in the buyer's shoes and think how they would think if they were searching for your items!

Sarah C - helpful links and nice job with your results after tweaking your tags :)

Re: Help with SEO

Wow great tips and Kaylyn thanks for asking this question! I'm always wondering the same thing myself!!

Sarah - That's amazing your views increases SO much after fixing your tags but I totally believe it!! If only I could find what tags would increase the traffic to my site...

Re: Help with SEO

I have a HUGE list of keywords and phrases to try now that I've gone through, typing in the search box for relevant terms. Now I just have to go through and figure out, from those terms, which ones are the "most important", which actually seems daunting...

Re: Help with SEO

I just read that the first few words in the title are extremely important... I didn't know that!
