Help please!!

There's a person that's interested in a pair of my earrings. She has a surgical steel allergy and was wanting to know if my posts were made with it. I do know that they are nickel free/ hypoallergenic. But they don't say "made with surgical steel" or anything like that. I don't want her to buy them and catch a reaction bc of them. I also don't want to lose a potential sale. I could always ask her what metals don't mess with her ears/ work around that. What would you suggest? Need help fast please.

I think you can just tell her they are nickel free and marked as hypoallergenic, but you can't guarentee they are not surgical steel. You can also point out that "surgical steel" is usually marked as such because it's a selling point for many people, so most likely the mfg. would advertise it. Hope that helps.

If they are hypoallergenic then you should be fine. I get people who message me about this, they have nickel allergies and my supplier allegedly ONLY sells hypoallergenic supplies and I've stood by that when customers ask if it's nickel/hypoallergenic and thus far, I haven't had any problems.

yes, surgical steel is usually something that is mentioned immediately by supplies sellers because it's almost as good as sterling silver as far as allergies, cleanliness and aging are concerned, so if your earring supplies said nothing about surgical steel, then they probably aren't.

The safest thing I'd think would be to consider sterling silver. It may be a little more expensive, but if you can remake the earrings or transfer the subject onto a new post or hook then it should be okay, but she may have to pay a little more to cover that. But that should keep them from irritating her ears, and if she wants them that much she might well be happy to pay an extra $5. Otherwise, if they can't be adjusted, altered or remade, just simply tell her that they are nickel free.

I have an allergy to surgical steel, nickel and sterling. I can only wear 14k gold or higher earrings. (I didn't know that sterling silver has other metals in it until I started collecting jewelry. That's why it is usually marked 925 not 1000 or pure silver and why I can't wear it in my ears.) I can wear it as a necklace or bracelet for a short time but not all day. Hopefully your customer is not the same.
