Help Please!

I just received my first international order, but not sure how to go about it exactly. It would be going to the UK. When I try to use the paypal label service, it claims the cheapest it will ship is for $16. That can't be right. How do I go about shipping it just regular first class? I would prefer the shipping to cost less than $6. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Help Please!

Is there a post office nearby that you can go to? I think for that order you'll need a customs form and since you're confused about pricing, the people who work there might be able to help you out.

Re: Help Please!

In order to ship international first class, you have to go the post office, you can't do it through paypal. You have to fill out a customs declaration form (CN22) that says what it is and the value and bring that to the counter. It is really not that bad once you figure it all out. Good luck!

Re: Help Please!

Hi Melissa,

I am over in the UK and almost all of my orders go to the USA - $16 (thats £10) seems a heck of a lot to me. Don't USPS have a website with their tariff on it? Is that for the super-dooper 'signed-for' and big-time insured service?

Like Marissa says, go down to the P.O. and talk it through with them. Don't be put off by the thought of a customs declaration - its just a sticker that goes on the back of the parcel and its a 5 second job to complete.

Re: Help Please!

I have done an international order before! Head over to the post office, fill out a customs form, and send it first class. It shouldn't cost more than a couple dollars. Good luck and congratulations! How exciting!

Re: Help Please!

Thanks so much everyone! I thought it was a lot more difficult than that from what others say. I feel better now! I'll just head over to the post office, after all. I appreciate the quick responses too!

Re: Help Please!

I think you should go to a post office. Once I shipped a necklace to India. I think I paid just $5.50 for a small size bubble cover. And the post office girl said it should reach in 7 to 14 business days. And it reached exactly in 10 days.

Re: Help Please!

I just shipped a package containing a crystal pendant to the UK. DON'T do it thru PayPal - as good as their rates usually are, they are a rip off when it comes to International Shipping. You can print off a Customs form on the USPS web site, fill it out, tape it to your package, take the rest of it (it's in 3 parts) to the PO with you, and it will cost you (depending on how heavy your item is) comparable to most US shipping. I think my pendant cost $3.83 to ship from Michigan to the UK - and it got to the hands of my customer in exactly six days - so DON'T go through Paypal on this one. Make the trip to the Post Office and save a bunch of money!

Re: Help Please!

Yes, I agree with everyone. Take it to the post office and you'll be fine. Also you'll get a better idea of what to charge for shipping other international orders.

Re: Help Please!

I've only started shipping Internationally from the UK the last 6 months, I put it off because of the expense but was surprised at how much less it was than I thought, and as has been said the customs declaration is just a sticker that goes on the parcel, it opens your possibilities so much to offer this service, good luck and here's to many more International sales for you!

Re: Help Please!

Try going to an actual courier rather than Paypal. I always go to the post office with my products and international orders (I'm based in the UK) don't cost me more than a couple of pounds. Paypal always tried to charge more so I never went through with it that way.

Re: Help Please!

I take international orders down to the Post Office. The number you were quoted probably is to ship it registered. I don't send it registered, just first class international. It's a risk, I have no idea if it arrives, but so far, no problems.
