You are being charged $0.20 every time you list an item and 3.5% every time you sell an item.

Re: Help My Etsy Bill is too High!

Each time your item sells, if it doesn't sell out, then you get charged
20 cents for the renewal. If you have your quantity avail. set for more than one, then it happens automatically.
Plus, if you had a good month, then you get charged a 2.5% fee each sale, and a fee (another 2.5 or 3%?) for the credit card transaction- if they used paypal, then that won't show on your bill.
PLUS if you used Etsy to buy your shipping labels, then you will have all of that added to your bill. If you are not careful, especially in a busy month, you will end up with no money in your payment account to pay that bill.
Every Sunday night or early Monday, I look at outstanding bill amount. The bill Etsy sends each month is due way after they have already sent your money to your bank on Monday morning. I look each week and pay it off, so that the money that people paid for shipping, that went into my shop payment account, doesn't end up in my bank account. Then I would get charged for all those Etsy fees on my credit card when the bill is due. It's easy for me to remember on Sunday night, when I'm shutting down my computer.
Hope that helps.

Re: Help My Etsy Bill is too High!

Just to clarify, for everyone, not just Frankie...
The Transaction Fee is on your Bill
The CC Fee shows in your Payment account, and comes out at the time of transaction. So I don't think that fee shows up on your bill.
BUT I started trying to calculate the credit card fee and clarify the fees from my transactions in my shop payment account, and the numbers are very inconsistent. So if anyone can find a link that has it spelled out clearly, I'd love to have that. I can only find those vague articles in the seller handbook. I had it all on charts a couple of years ago, and I didn't think I needed them any more.

Re: Help My Etsy Bill is too High!

.20 to list
3.5% at time of sale
Whatever the shipping cost is at the time of sale

The shipping cost is calculated with your fees so that may be what's throwing you off. I was confused at first too. Hope this helps.

Re: Help My Etsy Bill is too High!

Frankie, Sunny, and all,
Just to clarify the 20 cent per item charge is only charged once every 4 months, unless it automatically renews because you sold 1. In other words, if you had an item listed for sale and it didn't sell for a whole year, it would only cost you a total of 60 cents.
I find that the costliest part is the Etsy shipping labels, especially the international ones. Just make sure you are charging enough shipping for your items to cover that cost. Etsy shipping labels are definitely worth it in my opinion. I also do what Cindy said and manually pay my bill before my shop payment goes through each Monday.

Re: Help My Etsy Bill is too High!

For the month of December you will have at least 26 listing fees or renewal fees (26 items * $.20) for a total of $5.20 (or more depending on how many times an item sold).

You sold 226 items so you will have Etsy fees for the total * 3.5%. Using your median price of $13.88 that means that the income (not including shipping) was $3,126.88 for December so you will owe Etsy $109.79 of that in selling fees.

You will also owe the credit card fees (either for direct deposit or paypal) of the total income PLUS shipping. I picked a random item and its shipping charge was $5.25. so that * 226 is $1,186.50

So your direct checkout fees (or paypal fees) are calculated at 3% + $.25 per transaction (including shipping) which is $3126.88 + $1,186.50 = 4313.38 base for the fee.

At 3% of 4312.38 you will owe $129.40 and at $.25 per transaction you will owe an additional $56.50 ($.25 * 226).

So your Etsy fees will include
Transaction fees (fees for selling items) - $109.79
Credit card fees - 129.40 + 56.50 = 185.90

You will also owe fees for any Etsy shipping labels.
