Help I need a shop critique!

I am a newbie of sorts and have changed a lot of things in my shop since its first beginnings. I started as a vintage seller but really love the custom wedding aspect of my shop now. I have purchased a new computer which has helped. I have recently purchased a new camera that I just love, love, love. I am taking new pics of everything and have not finished tweaking all of my pictures to make them a cohesive and pleasing background yet. I continue to change titles and tags to try to make them more relevant.

My question is am I doing ok so far and if not why?

I'm new here, but I think it looks good. There's a great cohesiveness going on with the colors and themes and your titles and photos look good too. Good job! (At least to this newbie!)

Thanks so much. I need all the help I can get. By the way I love your shop and your aprons! Do you do children's aprons? I am purchasing a cake pop maker for my granddaughter and thought an apron would be a nice addition. You may want to consider doing them in your shop if you are not already.

Re: Help I need a shop critique!

Hi Martha!

Your items are adorable! I love the shabby chic vibe of your shop :)
Some advice: your banner could use a bit of an update. It's the first thing that most people see when they click on your shop and it is a great way to showcase some of your items or style. Your shop name is super cute, I would def try and work with your name and theme and try to incorporate an item or two that show shoppers in an instant what you are about.

Something else, I was a little bit overwhelmed in your shop with your pictures. A positive is that they are really cohesive, which is great, but I wasn't sure what was for sale, what I was looking at, and where the product ended and the background began. The hard part is over since you have created a look for your shop that def works but I would try and simplify at least your first photo so the shopper knows exactly what each item is.

Hope that helps!

Yup, I do kids' aprons too -- from basic full body to half apron ruffled tiered (I have adult tiered on my listings). I just don't have them up yet. AND there are matching mother/daughter in full body and tiered too.

Oh thanks so much. I thought that may be the case. I have this new camera and I think I may have gone a bit wild with the set up. Sure am glad you gave me that advice as well as the banner. Not sure where to start with the banner though guess I will check Etsy.

Martha,
I love your pics. I think they are interested and the warmth of the colors pulls you in. Beautiful. Best of luck, happy sales. I'll go in and pin something to my pinterest boards for you.

Re: Help I need a shop critique!

I agree with Morgan.. it does seem that your pendulum has swung a little too far the other direction! That said, I actually love how you've used moss and shabby together -- your photos are now all very cohesive and I would know it was you! Before you change too much, you said you had a new computer -- Mac? Well, in whatever photo program you use there may be a straightening bar. Some of your photos were tilted and this can fix that. I would also recommend trying a little lighting from the front or above-front. I live in Oregon and can't depend on indirect bright light all the time so I use full spectrum CFLs (the curly ones) inside those cheap hardware aluminum workshop lights...they don't get hot. Not all bulbs are alike, tho, and can throw off your white balance. Oh, and are you getting familiar with your new camera and whatever white balance feature it has? Experiment with that and take notes as you do so you can find the right settings. Your banner. For the time being you could just change the background color to be more cohesive with your mossy shabby gray. Your shop name is great! I wish you would sophisticate the look of it in your photos, though. I think it's a little too big and too word process looking.
I love your avatar photo! If that's you, we could have been in 2nd grade together! :o)
Of course, I should talk about any of this! This one's my very slow to kick into gear new and 3rd shop and the other 2 aren't wildly successful or anything!
Keep having FUN! I think you are totally getting there.

Re: Help I need a shop critique!

Totally rustic-wedding style, I love it. While I do like your banner, I might change it to reflect more of that "rustic" style...nature/trees, ect... perhaps make a little wooden heart with your shop name in it, photograph it, and make it into a banner!

Oh my what great advice. I can not tell you all how much this is appreciated. I will be reading this post over and over to make sure I have looked at or done everything you have suggested. I started some Etsy ads today and already have two sales! Off to get them completed and to the post office. Thanks again and I think I am going to really like this team! I will be back later!
